My hat's off to McDonalds. They never denied service to her. Publicly ridicule, embarrass and debase a handicapped customer? Yes. Deny service? No. Given the caliber of fast food employees and managers, I'm somehow, but sadly, not surprised. Oh, and a $10 coupon really does square things up. Thanks McDonalds for stepping up and making things right.

Yeah, I thought the McDonald's employees were unbelievable rude, the customer's always right. This woman does come off as a little too whiny and over-litigous, but maybe this will get the fast-food franchise employees nation-wide to learn a little basic human respect.

I definitely agree with the woman..she paid for her food...she should get what she paid for! What she didn't pay for (and should never had gotten) was attitude and rudeness.

It was wrong what those employees did to the lady just because she is handicaped. My dad knew years ago a girl who had a similar handicap with her arms, this was back in the 1930s.But this girl my dad said had a job as a typist.i don't recall him saying her fellow employees made fun of her,in fact they seemed to like her as a person. Young people and people in general nowadays are so rude. Wonder if this will be on Court Tv.

This woman obviously has overcome her handicap by using her feet so well.I hope her big fat discrimination settlement, will help her avoid Mc D's in the future. This law suit if she chooses should pay better than the scalding 190 degree, spilled coffee accident.$$$ Thanks for another unbelievable Mc donalds story,CajunKing.

She has obviously overcome her handicap but apparently Some Rockford McD's team members suffer from a rampant handicap known as "MS" (Mindboggeling Stupidity)

I probably seem very rude but I can understand why the second employee didn't want to give the woman her food if she was using her feet. I am disgusted by feet and I personally wouldn't want some stranger's foot that close to my face. I definitely wouldn't have wanted to take a credit card that had been handed to me with a person's feet. Also, if she had problems at the first McDonalds then she shouldn't have gone back to the second one. Secondly, if she had a friend with her then she should have let her friend drive the car through the drive thru. Even better, she should have had the friend go inside and order the food. Honestly, I'm not trying to be rude but which sounds like the better idea-the woman without arms in the position to grab the food and has to use her feet or the person with arms in the position to get the food? Hmmmm...I've got to say the second scenario seems way better. I can understand how the employee at the first McDonalds could be seen as rude but that employee might have just wanted to make sure that she really didn't have usable arms and was forced to use her feet.

So then what you're saying, ashd8516, is that everyone with a physical disability should always have someone without one do everything for them? Or is it just someone without arms? What if she had no legs...would you be OK with her driving then, or should she always have someone chauffer her around? How about if she was blind...would you be OK with her walking around with a cane and/or service dog, or should she have someone else do everything while she stays home and hides?

Forget about the details of this case. Think about your own experiences in fast food joints and other locations that employ a lot of kids. Did you ever experience attitude from these kids that made your blood boil? I have. Many a time. From kids working at franchisees of US owned companies who spoke no English, to kids working on nice days in the summer when they wanted to be at the beach who were working as slow as molasses. Maybe the woman who is suing just wants to get out the message to "Be kind to your web-footed and handicapped friends". You know this is going to get settled with a non-disclosure agreement.

"I am disgusted by feet"? How do you get by at the pool or the beach? And -- "wanted to make sure she had usable arms......". Yeah. People pretending to have useless arms by using their feet. Happens all the time. What next, Ashd? "Hey, you can't bring that seeing-eye dog in here unless you go in the back and take an eye test to make sure you're really blind."

Because the restaurant is handicap accessible, does the drive thru also have to be handicap accessible? I would think that McDonald's could argue, much like oversized vehicles, that the drive thru service is a convenience and is not available to all people. That could include certain handicap people, such as those without arms, since the drive thru is a window, rather than a counter. This will probably be settled out of court, especially if there was any verbal abuse.

This discussion brings up a strange thought for me. I don't understand it when people say "I hate feet" or some other body part. Naturally, if feet are disgusting - like full of gangrene - I too would avoid contact. But feet are a part of the human body, why should your abnormal thoughts about feet effect other people? I've been at people's houses who scream and run away when I take off my shoes, screaming "I hate feet! Get them away. They are gross." I put my shoes back on and apologize, but I really don't understand it. Perhaps I should develop a "foot acceptance therapy," so people who hate feet can learn to accept that feet are part of the human body (most of the time, anyway) and thereby reduce the trauma they experience.

Couldnt the lady have explained her position before she just threw her feet up in the air? I think she is in the right, but a little tact from both sides could have prevented all of this.

I agree with Tkitna. Also, the person that took her credit card could have easily communicated to staff that this woman would appreciate someone bringing the bag of food out to her car. I've seen that done for others. Unless she was looking for a confrontation and an excuse to file suit... It happens.

Mr Mayor, As "sick" as it was, I loved your comment, when I read the topic title, my immediate thought turned to "short arm inspections" after every week end pass, and upon returning from leave.

Port wine stain, large warts, elephant man disease, scars, burn victims...the list goes on of mutants we shouldn't be subjected to without preparing ourselves for their revolting appearance or abnormality. Geez, why is our society so unable to accept those who don't fit the norm? I may be going out on a limb here but I think most humans just want be treated like everyone else. Amazing how some people can overcome their physical limitations yet others cannot do the same for their prejudices. "I'll have a burger, fries and shake...and oh yeah, the hand I use to reach the take-out window is a little mangled from a motorcycle accident so don't be alarmed when I pull up to the window, and I'm short and bald too. I thought you'd want to know."

McDonalds is a big target. I do not believe we know the entire story. I sincerely wonder if what is presented is the actual story. I do not appreciate the large litigious society. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Oh Boy, They need to hire these guys... <link removed> I help my wife teach the class, and MCD is on our list to get as clients. OH and she talks about how to interact with people who use feet as hands. I know how they treat my wife and I'm not suprized at how they did this lady. Later

I was just stating that better communication may have prevented the issue to some extent, so you can come down from your pedestal.

Why should anyone have to "explain their position" ? Handicap folks have to overcome all kinds of adversity just to survive and you believe they should have to explain themselves to a drive-thru clerk in order to buy a crummy hamburger?
