McDonald's, cheap buzzards

Ok, I admit upfront that I'm thrifty, don't part with a nickel more then I have to. I think that the internet is the best comparative shopping tool around. But Mickie D's is taking the cake now adays on being cheap. I ordered my usual 2 dbl cheeseburgers @ 1 buck each tonight and requested my usual extra pickles. They charged me an extra 20 cents for 2 extra pickles. I was stunned, amazed even, then ticked off. To top it off they didn't bother to give me any napkins or ketchup for my fries. Boooo to McD's!!!

Maybe it was late and the line cook was having a bad night... You know how it goes, have to unwrap that burger that was wrapped earlier toss on the pickles, then toss it into the microwave. Extra work....

Yes, I know how it is. I asked them for a cup of water for my dog, I was charged for the cup. (.50) and (.25) for the water. It was a couple of years before I cast my shadow in McDonalds.!!!!!!! Rex in hot, expensive San Diego. Third most expensive city in the USA.

That reminded me of when I worked at McD's in high school - one of the grill guys had a thing about people ordering extra pickles, he would pile on a disgusting amount. I don't know why. Anyway, I do remember when the McD's around here used to charge for the little tubs of tartar sauce, and they don't anymore. A lot of people around here eat their fries with tartar sauce, maybe that has something to do with it.

McD's stopped being "cheap" eons ago. A good burrito place or other hole in the wall joint gives you way more for five or six bucks than anything at the golden arches ....

Just thinking about McDonald's now...anybody remember their ad campaign many years ago where you got change back from your dollar? You could buy a hamburger, fries and a Coke for something like 97 cents total. KFC had what they called a "99 Center" many years ago. The jingle went, "Two finger-lickin' good pieces of chicken, roll, and coleslaw!" I paid almost 6 bucks the other day for a two piece dinner of Original Recipe!

I've always thought KFC was a poor value. If I am having chicken for lunch, I look for Chester Fried, better quality at half the price.

I remember when the McD's mgr. gave coupons for free burgers or even meals if you had to wait to long for your order. Now it's just stand and wait and when they get around to it you get your food.

I had heard recently that at McDonalds, the hamburger patties arrive at the store on the truck already cooked, and that all they do is heat them up. True? Anyone know someone working for McDonalds? Lord, I hope not.

Of course, this was SOP 11-12 years ago. Try Snopes.com. I have eaten burgers at McDonald's twice during the last month and nothing has happened to me.

Much better food! (Especially since your return business generates their livelyhood)... May cost a few cents more, but then they dont have a national chain covering their loss's...

McFan: I was working there about the same time period. I loved those big grills! And we used to do pizzas, which actually weren't bad.

Sorry all, but McD's is now indelibly blended in my head with bypass surgery after seeing that picture of "Bill", leaving the golden arches with a big soda and a silly smile, a million times this weekend. Don't think I can ever eat there again.

Isn't the whole purpose of this site about trying to find places to eat besides McDonald's and other chain fast-food places? I know I sound like a broken record, but who here really likes eating at McDonald's? If we did, we wouldn't be on this site.

My goodness, when you get two double cheeseburgers for 2 bucks and then are upset over 20 cents for extra pickles, I would suggest you eat at home except I do not think you could eat a meal any cheaper than that even at home. Perhaps you should invest in a 90 cent jar of sliced pickles and take them with you.

Danimal, Obviously if I'm out of town I'm not going to stop at a McDonald's. But I will admit to having craving for the double quarter pounder cheese burger. Especially if I've been a bit over festive the night before.

Every so often I find myself actually craving a Big Mac. When I do eat one, I usually get a stomach ache--really! But there's something about stuffing that ball of pure grease and calories in my mouth that is hard to resist even knowing the ultimate consequences. This doesn't mean I don't recognize a superior burger when I can get one--but that's a different experience somehow.

I stated quite openly, up front, that I'm cheap. It totally assualted my senses that they charged me 20 cents for 2 extra pickles. Otherwise, life is grand. MikeS.

To be honest with you, it's not that important a goal. It just gives me an excuse to go to Mickey-D's.

Because of USDA restrictions on Hoof and Mouth Disease, they can't utilize beef from south of the Panama Canal. Thus they are still able to advertise that their ground beef is "100% American". I have lived on a beef cattle farm the last 29 years and I was told even McDonalds can't buy U.S. beeves cheap enough to sell 89 cent burgers....

Unfortunately that is true, sometimes. I work 11pm - 0730 and live in a very small town. The only thing open is either McD's or a local chain of convience stores called Sheetz's that do subs and such. It is on nights that I miss dinner that I'll stop there on the way to work. MikeS.

Having delivered MILLIONS of pounds of McGonalds food to stores all over the Midwest (Used to drive a McDonalds Truck, the ware house is 3 miles from my home). I will say it is NOT PRE COOKED. It is flash Frozen raw Beef. The french Fries are pre cooked. Then frozen. quote:Originally posted by TJ Jackson I had heard recently that at McDonalds, the hamburger patties arrive at the store on the truck already cooked, and that all they do is heat them up. McDonalds does like Tyson does. They want the beef raised to order so they lease AMERICAN farms all over the country. Just like Tyson. Now, they do get alot of the beef and Fish used over seas from local markets. quote:Originally posted by Mark in Ohio quote:Originally posted by TJ Jackson I had heard recently that at McDonalds, the hamburger patties arrive at the store on the truck already cooked, and that all they do is heat them up. My Mcdonalds charges for cheese on the sausage, egg and biscuit. For some reason the bacon, egg and cheese biscuit includes cheese, but the sausage and egg biscuit requires a 40 cent add on for cheese.
