McDonald's in the Philippines...

The first thing you notice when you walk into a Filipino McDonald's is that you are greeted by a security guard. (Welcome to the Philippines!) You may be frisked. Don't let that get you. The crew members are all under 30, including the managers. There is the idea here that fast food jobs aren't real occupations. You will notice that people don't take their jobs so seriously. It isn't a career for them. They will all be doing something else within six years... including their bosses! Here in Mindanao, you can't get a regular hamburger. They have what they call the Burger McDo (McDo is the Filipino version of "Mickey D's"). It has an orange secret sauce that is best reserved for something else. It's not the same as (Big) Mac Sauce. There are no salads or non sandwich items found in America. You can get fried chicken (Chicken McDo) and rice is always served with fried chicken. In most outlets, coffee and hot chocolate (called "choco") is served only between 6 and 10:30 in the morning. There is a McDo's by me that keeps a coffee pot out all the time, but it's usually dry except in the morning. If you prefer to buy a sandwich with a drink only, the price will always be higher than if you order a Value Meal with French fries. I learned this the hard way. One specialty of the Philippines is a Coke Float. They take the ice cream for sundaes and put it with chocolate syrup and a Coke. The Coke has ice in it, which makes it difficult for this man to consume. Milk shakes ("shakes" here always indicate fruit, so you have to say milk shake) are offered on a seasonal basis. I see the ads but I have never seen the machines operational. The price of a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder is P100, or just a little over $2.00 in the United States.
