quote:Originally posted by renfrew I have enjoyed Filet O' Fish for about 20 years. I make no excuses for it, I just happen to enjoy them very much. The soft bun, fish tartar sauce and cheese just combine into a very tasty experience. So in the past year or so I have noticed that they now put a half slice of cheese on the sandwich instead of the full slice they have done for the past 19 years. Anyone else notice it? Is it just in my area? (Northeast) I get those sometimes, usually after an evening of drinking. They could probably put cardboard on crackers and I would eat it by then. I'll try to pick a few up when sober (if it happens), and taste test them.

Might be a regional thing and it took awhile for other areas to "catch" on. its been like that since the day it was invented and made available on the menu in 1965.. half a slice of cheese always. invented in Cincinatti the fish was cod but Ray Kroc didnt like the name of cod because it reminded him of cod liver oil when he was a kid, it was marketed as "North Atlantic Whitefish" but the filet itself has changed since b4... the fish tastes different than it once did

While I infrequently stop by fast food places (perhaps once / month), I do enjoy MCD's fish sandwich when I want a quick meal. In the 60's, I'm sure they used 1/2 slice. I haven't noticed in recent years. On the other hand, I don't find their "cheese" all that great so 1/2 slice is as much as I'd care to have. I recently tried one of their double "cheese" burgers and nearly gagged. Next time, I'm thinking on ordering a double cheesburger, but holding the cheese to get a $1 double burger.
