Memphis BBQ Pizza Mon, 09/27/04 11:03 AM (permalink)
I'm leaving for Memphis this week. I saw something on the food channel showing pulled pork on a pizza but can't remember the name of the joint. Can someone tell me where that's at and if it's as good as it looked on t.v.?

I believe the place is called Colettas

I never ate there, so I can't tell you much about it.

Based on write up inReal American Food by Jane & Michael Stern I ate the barbeque pizza at Coletta's. However, this occurred 16 or 17 years ago. My recollection is that it was very good and very filling. That the place has lasted this long would indicate continued quality. Haven't had anything like it since then.

fpczyz - thanks for your reply. I'm spending a few extra days in Memphis on a work related trip. I've been browsing this board and another bbq thing I found on the net. Here are the places on my list A&R, Cozy Corner, Paynes & Corkys & Colettas (or not). Let me know how you would edit my list. I'm a fan of pulled pork and spicy bbq sauces on the side.

And while you're at it, be sure to accompany a pork plate with a side of barbecued spaghetti. I would put Cozy Corner, A&R, and Interstate at the top of my list.

Do you prefer a dry or wet rub on the spaghetti?

I will report back next week. Tonight I get to go see the genius (Brian Wilson). Then off to Memphis.

Well, I'm back from Memphis. I tried BBQ at the A&R, Blues City & Rendezvous. I have to say that none of them are as near as good as John Hardy's in Rochester, MN. The best food I had was a burger at a bar on Beale street, it was called 125 or something like that. I did enjoy the music and the weather was great.

What's up the beans out of can? It's easy to make good beans guys.

You should have gone to Interstate and Cozy Corner. Did you try the BBQ Pizza?

I did not try the pizza, I'm thinking I should have. After driving around Memphis the first day I had decided to stick to what ever was closest to the Peabody, as I don't care to drink & drive. The locals all pointed me towards the Rendezvous which I will say was the best out of them, I had the brisket and some chicken nachos that were interesting. Should I get that way again I will try the Cozy Corner & Interstate. However I won't be driving all 13 hours in one day again!
