Men's Journal: Best Ice Cream Shops In America

Pretty good list, I think.  I can personally attest to Amy's in Austin.

My preference is Dallas based, Paciugo Gelato.
I love their unusual Rose and Violet flavors when available.

Evidently quality of ice cream is not the first criteria, otherwise at least one (if not more) of the University dairy bars would have been noted (UConn, PA State, Univ WI, etc).  Guessing it's more about quaintness.

I mentioned on another thread with one of these lists some time ago that Capogiro, the Philly gelato place on both lists, is overrated and way overpriced. It's popular locally, but I've had much better gelato in other cities (there is a place in downtown Seattle called Gelatiamo that serves what may be the best ice cream I've ever tried).

I've never tasted a Gelato in America that comes close to the real deal in Italy. There's a shop in Florence (forgot name) that is amazing,,,and a there are countless great places in Rome!!!!

Like most of these lists, it should be titled "Ice cream places in or near big cities".

Having unusual flavors seems to help one get on these lists.

We've had it in Rome...........same place....Three days in a row!...near the bridge over the Tiber to the Castle....and in NYC near the Seaport Museum up in the Fulton Market area..........my wife and daughter (27) swear by both.  I cover my ears. Seriously........both were fantastic

I totally agree! We had amazing gelato at a very popular gelato shop around the corner from the Pantheon (IMHO, the best gelato in Rome) and one very close to St. Peter's Basilica and, at the Piazza Navona.

I think the main difference between gelato in Italy and the USA are the flavors. They're much more pure in Italy.

Delightfully, the developer/entrepreneur who has revitalized "Old Town McKinney" over the past decade has now opened a Paciugo franchise here in my adopted hometown.  Good stuff!

Hey she got Graeter's and Creole Creamery in there I am almost happy.  I agree about the lack of Univ Creameries.

Stephen, I ate ice cream several times during my recent long weekend in Maine and was amazed by the quality of the ice cream.  My personal favorite was Brown's Ice Cream in York, where I sampled three flavors including this Maine specialty whoopee pie.
