Mentos

I luuuuuv Mento candy! My favorite is Peppermint but tonight I found a new flavor: Pamplemousse (aka "Pink Grapefruit")

I guess this flavor is imported from France (or Canada). Does anyone know the True National Origin of Mentos?

PS. In just searching for an answer to the above question on Google, I came across many entries about a "surprise" you will get when you drop a full roll of mentos into a bottle of coke.....

Go check Google Videos and see what really happens. It is quite explosive...I wonder what ingredient causes such a reaction?

I've heard about the grapefruit and it sounds yummy.

Mentos are made by an Italian company called Perfetti van Melle.

They also make Frisk mints, Fruittella and Airheads.

    Current Mento flavors:
    Peppermint
    Cinnamon
    Mixed Fruit
    Stawberry
    Sour Apple.

    Yum.

The recipe for the Coke & Mentos trick is:
    2 Liter Diet Cola
    5 Mint Mentos
Today i did this but was only to drop in two Mentos before the thing erupted. Pretty darn funny!!! What a way to waste a buck!

Wasting away a rainy Saturday in front of the tube, I saw that show
"Mythbusters" on the Discovery Channel..pretty interesting program. These guys do experiments to test various myths, and the one I saw was indeed the Mentos one. Apparently, what they found that makes the "geyser" take place is the combination of aspartame, caffeine, and the pockmarked surface (doesn't appear that way) of the Mentos themselves. Pretty interesting...it won't apparently work with non-caffeinated, sugared beverages.

That episode of mythbuster was probably one of my favorites

I tried the mentos and a 20 oz diet coke, it was an ok volcano but a warm 2 litre works LOTS BETTER!!!

And it has to be the Mint Mentos the flavored ones won't work, they have a smoother coating then does the mint ones, the minto ones have a better pocked surface, easier to get a surface reaction from.

the mythbuster episode number is #61, they got it to shoot over 20 feet straight up in the air.

Getting them all in there is the tricky part- the thing goes wild as soon as the first Mento makes contact! Maybe you could attach the 5 Mentos to a very thin strip of Scotch tape /or rice paper to get them all in at the same time. Two Mentos erupted a warm 2 liter diet cola about 6' high- instantly!

I know of two different flavors besides the ones mentioned above. I have seen peach Mentos and in the box of mixed flavors they had cherry ones in them.

Hi, I am in Montreal, Canada, and mentos are sold everywhere, grocery stores, convenience stores, Walmart, gas stations. I think they do come from europe tho.

    Gettting back to Mentos-n-Diet Sodas----
Christmas day we tried it here. A 1/8th hole was drilled into the cap, for the string and fountain. The geyser reached 13x the height of the bottle (I'm measuring one of my photos right now and I havebn't measured the height of the actual bottle). Looking at the bottle afterwards, it appeared only a pint or so actually disappeared via the geyser.
I'm thinking adding some kind of U-tube and inverting the bottle will make a longer, fuller geyser. We're trying the next experiment New Years.
