Menu exchange: any takers? Thu, 05/13/04 12:07 PM (permalink)
I'm sure a lot of us traded baseball cards as kids. Now that we're grown up and food has taken over as a huge priority in our lives , I'd like to know if anyone would like to trade restaurant menus with me.

I have a huge collection of paper menus from the Tampa Bay area and am interested in seeing how the other half (of the nation) eats. If anyone else is as crazed as me and has a collection of menus that you'd like to trade, let me know! I love seeing stuff from other states and cities. It provides a fascinating insight to our country's culture.

Hope to hear from Pennsylvania folks too, that want to trade. I'm homesick!

I have a few from NC that are basically photo copied hand-outs.
        Are you interested?

Last week, when I was in The Oyster Bar in Pensacola, I asked for a menu to bring home. The hostess looked at me for a minute, said "sorry"----and must have seen my face fall. She then took one of the regular, plastic laminated menus and gave it to me to take. Southern hospitality!

Kristi, Do you have a menu from the deli near the new Phillies ballpark, I think it's Lenny's.

No Signman, I don't...most of what I have is St. Pete and the Beaches. Haven't been to Lenny's yet...
As a side note, speaking of Lenny's, I had a Philly-esque meal last night at home...a BIG cheesteak (hear that, CheeseWit?), a bottle of Yuengling and Butterscotch Krimpets for dessert! Heaven!

And the Lightning beat the Flyers. Real cool!

I've always stashed a menu (borrowed/stolen) for myself! But with an exchange going, wow! More menus to re-allocate into my possesion! YES! I want part of this! Are we going for the paper version or the full laminated type deal? Also, originals or copys?? I'll send off my email to Kristi S. Great idea!

I'm a menu collector also. Do you want the original ones or copies.
I have some that I don't want to depart of

                        UncleVic,
All that I have are the paper versions. I may have a laminated one or two. It doesn't matter to me, I am just excited that people like the idea!

A thought might be to scan them into the confuser and convert them into PDF format, that way all can share??? Just a thought...

Another great site for menus and food history can be found at the "CULINARY HISTORY TIMELINE" @ http://www.gti.net/mocolib1/kid/food1.html
This site can give access to other libraries on line menu collctions

Since people are asking, the trade should work like this: If you have three menus to send, I will send three back to you. Pretty simple. Also, I'm not picky if they are originals or not, or laminated, makes no diff to me. Just please, no menus with food bits on them because the menus are going into a scrapbook of sorts. And we in Florida have cucarachas the size of Refrgerator Perry that can sense a morsel of food (however old, however minute) from several miles away....

                                  Keep 'em coming!

More menu fanatics! I've got a whole ton that I enjoy leafing through while I'm eating.Nothing better than words and food-combined!!!I've gotten some pretty terrific ones from Ebay.My other big interest is tiki-the prices for tiki menus with the photos or drawings of the tiki drinks is out of this world-one a few weeks ago went for over $400.00! Yow!

Interesting thread...I've been in search of a menu for Woolworth's restaurants (I was young, but remember going to the one at the Whitehall Mall in Whitehall, PA with my grandmother) and I'm also looking for a Hess's Patio (Allentown, PA flagship store restaurant) menu. If anyone can help or can point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it. Cheers.

Amazon.com has a library of menus for restaurants around the US.

                                                  Try this link:
                                                  http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/913908/ref=gw_br_rs/104-3071925-1463947
... otherwise, go to their home page and click on restaurnats in the left hand column.

Why they do this, I have no idea. Maybe just to build traffic.

If anyone else is as crazed as me and has a collection of menus that you'd like to trade, let me know! I love seeing stuff from other states and cities. It provides a fascinating insight to our country's culture.

When I moved from Orlando after twenty years, I gave away my huge collection of menus to a friend. I thought it would be too depressing to have around, knowing I would probably never eat at most of these places again. I still have a few menus from restaurants I've visited in other cities, or local ones that have closed. My favorite is from Vung Tau, a Vietnamese place that was open for less than a year in Orlando. It had hundreds of items on its menu, including goat, venison, wild boar, eel and frog legs. And seven varieties of bahn mee.
