Second Tuttabella for pizza.
Also, The Saint, and El Mestizo, both Capitol Hill Mexican places, Coastal Kitchen (not seafood, despite the name) also in Capitol Hill, Honeypot Sandwiches, Capitol Hill, and Senor Moose in Ballard for Mexican. Salumi is great but ridiculously rude service. Kingfish on 19th for soulfood.

Hope this helps, Abe!

Serious Pie has its detractors, but we have always have good pizza there. I've never had pizza in the northeast, so maybe I don't know from pizza, but Serious Pie is really good food.

Just to correct myself, it's Honeyhole Sandwiches, not honeypot.

The Seattle places reviewed here on roadfood are a good start. I second Nancy's nomination of "The Stranger" as a good source. It's food round-up issues will have decent and/or adequate pizza recommendations. As i said, i stay out of the pizza stuff because i honestly don't think I know enough about pizza to make a recommendation.

Thanks to Tony Bad for restoring order in here and for the helpful posts I've gotten- I sent the link to this to my friend and she appreciates all the help.  Her parents are coming in to visit this week and she needed some suggestions on where to take them!

This was my bible when I lived there:
                SEATTLE BEST PLACES
It was like the AAA book, only for people who don't like the places AAA picked.

I'm suprised there is still a market for the book -- what with the advent of the World-Wide-Interweb and all ... I haven't seen a recent issue, is probably worthwhile getting your hands on a copy.

If we're passing around general "new to the area" advice, I will also add one more book to the list.

I didn't even realize that they had a companion web site until I went searching for the book.  I bought the Chicago edition for a friend when she moved there, and she has found it to be indispensable - and usually very "on" in their recs.
