San Fran certainly has one of the most diverse restaurants I have experienced. Many that I cannot afford but I have found so many that I enjoy at a very reasonable price. My guess that many in the book will be way beyond my means. I have had dinner at Pucks place in the bay city but I did not pay. I was a guest of one of our vendors. When in the city, I always enjoy the dim sum and of course some place in the wine country. Paul E. Smith knoxville, TN

The local perspective: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/04/06/BAG72I40CO41.DTL&hw=Michelin&sn=001&sc=1000 This will give us something to gossip about endlessly in Baghdad By The Bay (can we keep using that phrase?), but it won't change my dining habits. I personally favor small ethnic places--places you can still get a great meal fo under $15--and I'll be surprised if they review any of them. As someone pointed out, these are Frenchmen. What do they know about Thai cuisine or Mexican or Hunan or, for that matter, a good hamburger? Personally I like the Zaggat Guides because the ratings are from real people, not a self-proclaimed "expert" or "critic". When I recently went to New York, I used two guides a lot: Zaggat and "The Food Lover's Guide to the Best Ethnic Eating in New York City" by Robert Seitsema. I never even looked at Michelin.
