Midwood BBQ or Queen City Q in Charlotte? Or R.O.'s in Gastonia?

Anyone been to Midwood BBQ or Queen City Q in Charlotte, NC? I'm still thinking about a place for Sunday evening on my trip next month. Midwood cooks with wood. I'm not sure about Queen City.

How about R.O.'s in Gastonia?

R.O.'s certainly does not smoke with wood.  Here's my take on it:

And here's a very recent story from Charlotte's Barbecue Bros:

Oh, I've never been to either, sorry!  Although Queen City sent me a nice invitation to try them out, so they are on my to-do list!

Midwood in my opinion is the best brick and mortar place in Charlotte, and they do indeed cook with wood. Here's another recent review of ours: (edit: guess I can't post links yet)

Queen City Q is just a slight notch below Midwood but is worth your time if you can't make it to Midwood (although they are just a few miles apart, so if you can make here you could make Midwood). I believe Queen City Q cooks with gas and adds wood chunks, but have not verified this. We have a review on the site if you are so inclined.

So just to be sure, you recommend Midwood over Sauceman's?

    Thanks.

Yes, Midwood over Sauceman's. Of those three, I'd recommend:
    1. Midwood
    2. Queen City Q
    3. Sauceman's

    Thank you!

By the way, I just saw the list of bbq in Charlotte with the places to still review. I'll be trying 521 and Q2u on my trip in August. I am surprised that Old Hickory House is so high on your list. I know it has also gotten a very good review from Roadfood.com, but my meal there last year was not good at all.

Thanks for checking out the site. One thing Old Hickory House has going for it is that it cooks over wood. I am not a fan of the tangy sauce on top (a Georgia-style sauce from what I understand), but the pork by itself was moist and full of smoke last time I went. Though I will admit it is a bit hit or miss from my experiences over the past 8 years.
