Wow!  Can't wait to see the tutus.  My photojournalist Paul and I will meet the group at McBob's at 10:30 on Sunday, and then travel to Champion Chicken.  We will also make sure to include all your stops in our story... so if someone can upload some pictures after the trip, that would be great.  Wish I could go along all day... sigh.  But holiday parties, etc later that day.  Anyway, looking forward to meeting you.  And I'll clear cameras with the businesses etc.  Maureen

stricken, 11 stops aren't planned; it's more like 5 or 6 for those who do the whole thing. The main ones seem to be McBob's, Champion, Lucky's, and Rice Palace--that's 4.  Because not everyone wants to eat consecutive meals, C-F are thrown in for shopping. And because our Chicago friends may want to have custard before heading back south, J and K have been added on for those who want it. This tour doesn't seem any more ambitious than others.

Because I have to work the next day, I plan on cutting loose after Rice Palace. Similarly, you can come and go as you wish once we nail the real itinerary and approximate times down. MFL said he could only go to McBob's. However, other folks may wish to do the whole thing. This may be true of those from Chicago; why would they want to drive up for just a couple of hours, then go home?

 
Because we are awesome!!!!!   I will have to see about times. I do enjoy eating corned beef w/MFL. I may do a shortened tour. I prefer less stops with more chance to converse & catch up. the TV crew is irrelevant, I want to see everyone.

Yes, two separate flights - one to MKE and one to Chicago would get the job done, but it would also be at about twice the price.  If you are asking if a connection through Chicago would get the miles needed - with the additional short hop to MKE, then, the answer would be no.  Trust me - I am much more inclined to think outside the box on flights than I am with food.  Years ago, when I was trying to make status on American Airlines, I would fly from Orlando to Miami and then go on to my actual destination from there - just to pick up the extra 500 miles/segment (x 2, of course, on a round trip).  The flights usually didn't cost much more - and were even sometimes cheaper to do that way, believe it or not.

Will it involve tutus? 

Does anyone have ideas about transportation logistics for Sunday? Are we all taking separate cars? If we want to combine cars during the day, I can drive people from the first stop until the Rice Palace stop, but will have to head home after that.

If we consolidate cars, is the McBob's neighborhood a good area for that?

Also, I can try to write out an itinerary (or just print out what we have above) with stops, phone numbers, etc., but my ability to print is limited. Perhaps someone else could make copies of JRPfeff's map (or a simple version of it) so people unfamiliar with the terrain will have a basic guide to work with?  I'm barely one step above being a monkey at a typewriter, so I'm not sure I can do that sort of thing successfully.

I, too, am sick.
ChuckL and I must've caught the same bug on the plane down to NOLA.

I also found out I have a holiday party later in the afternoon, so I might be bailing out around 3 (or earlier, depending on how I feel - I may bail on the holiday party, too).

Sounds like fun. I'll be able to catch up with everyone around the 3rd or 4th stop, depending on the time.

Sad news here folks. The coolest sausage company in the two state area, European Homemade Sausage Co. is closing their doors by the first of the year. The owner is 79 years young and his family begged him to call it a day. They are not open on Sundays. Chicago's LTH Forum has sent many happy Chicagoans up here to sample this treat of a shop.

Well it is 0617 Saturday moring. I plan on going there at 0800. If you tell me what you need, I'll be happy to pick something up. Beth and I are in for the McBobs only but we could give your CARE package to a trustworthy Roadfooder of your choice to pass on to you.

I'll bring some samples of the spicy hunters sausage aka landjaeger. It was pretty busy; after me a bunch of Milwaukee firemen were in to pick up a large previously called in order. It was bittersweet knowing we're going to be eating some unusual sausages the likes of which will be hard to come by. No, he still had smoked tongue and snout along with different blutwursts and headcheeses. I'm talking Swedish potato sausage along with various Serbian and Slovenian links both fresh and smoked. It's a disappearing part of Americana that was a true treat to have observed. I thought his Hungarian spicy summer sausage was one of the best I've eaten but really Frank and his store were a bigger drawing card than the sausages. I hope everyone had time to see those wonderful pictures in the LTH story.

They start serving breakfast at 8-just an fyi. I can be there at 10 but will anyone else be there?
 We were going to be there at 10:30 but I'm open to 10.  Quijote, do you have a head count? We've always eaten at the bar. I honestly don't know how big the place is, it seems like it might be a pretty good size though. Has Maureen, Jim, Quijote, the head cat wrangler,  or anyone given them a heads up that there will be some extra folks there and some of them will have small hand held cameras while others might be  lugging Betacams? If anyone can give me a firm commitment that they will arrive at a specific time with guaranteed number for their party, I'll pass that on to the McBobs staff. OK, MFL and Mrs MFL (in 2 cars) will be at McBobs at 10:15 and we both will be having that corned beef hash. After breakfast, Mrs MFL will be off and I will accompany The Contingent to Champion Chicken where I will possibly have some fried chicken and/or get an order of chicken to go  and I'll bid everyone a fond farewell. The Roadhouses should be aware that Champion Chicken also is known for frozen custard; jus sayin'.


Has anyone else noticed we haven't heard from Maureen lately or did I just miss that? Anyway, I called up Champion Chicken and alas, while they have cocktails, beer, malts, shakes, "gourmet" soft drinks and several types of lemonades, they do not have a TV for those who want to watch Green Bay toy with da Bears. At 10 I'll just be getting out of church: the building with the real steep roof that has a cupola with a bell in it and also has a real steep roof with the lower case t on top. Obviously, we have to have the game on the radio since Fox televises Packer games in Wisconsin. Do you still plan on being at McBob's for kickoff or are you going for custard by then? Enquiring minds want to know!
