Thanks for posting the links!  I agree that Maureen and Paul did a great job of capturing the spirit of the group and the essence of Roadfood. And I'm also glad that McBob's and Champion got some publicity out of it; they were wonderfully accommodating throughout the process.

JRPfeff

John - I think you have a new screen name - Roadfood_Organizer.

Haha-- I'm surprised they didn't use my other name: Brad Olson.

I don't know about dorkie, but you sounded like a professor.

Jim

Yikes, even worse! (j/k)  I hope this publicity gives the Roadfood site more traffic, and maybe we'll reel another member or two into The Contingent.  But in any case, the event had the effect of bringing us together to share stories, opinions, laughs, and a love for food, culinary culture, and the people at all stages of the process who make it all happen. A lovely day it was, and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Anthropological or sociological aspect, which do I like better?
I think I'll put that to Professor Roadfood_Organizer next time I see him?
I see you made it to Lucky's. Not seeing anyone's breath, I'm guessing they let you picnic inside.
I think it's quite a treat when eaten fresh like it appears you did.
Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it so easy for the rest of us.
It was a special day spent well with friends.

In the case of Lucky's, it was definitely anthropological.   Imagine a horde of random non-Serbian Roadfooders coming in and pillaging the shelves and counters of roast pork, roast lamb, fresh-baked bread, kajmak, the cola-type drink whose name I can't remember, and fluffy banana chocolates. The best part was picnicking inside; there are even small shade umbrellas set up at the tables!  The staff really rose to the challenge and explained things, fetched knives for us, etc. Not your typical "mini-mart"!

Went to eat at MollyCool's last night (FABULOUS oysters, hot crab and spinach dip and crab, crawfish & brie stuffed Florida Grouper), and a random waitress (not our waitress) said she saw me on TV!

Also, for those of you on Twitter, Michael Stern is on Twitter, too!
He's @Roadfood123

I ate at McBob's this afternoon and had about a 45 minute conversation with the owner Robert.  He said he really enjoyed having the Roadfooders at his place last week.  And next time any of you visit, make sure you ask him where he got his corned beef recipe.  It is a great story!

According to the numerous people that called me yesterday around 4.30, WTMJ ran the piece again for their 4 PM newscast.

BB, was that Sunday? The time of your post is unclear to me, at least? (1 day + 15 hours = what?)

What a great time! I love how Paul caught all us food geeks with our cameras when the food came out.

Yes, it was this past Sunday.  I watched the first half of the Steeler-Packer game from McBob's.

buffetbuster,

Glad you caught up with JRPfeff for lunch.  But here's the important question: Did he give you a "WWbbD" wristband?

Important Note to CSD and Nina: The fresh kajmak we found in the refrigerated section at Lucky's was better than anything you'll find in a jar anywhere else.  Delicious fresh bread to spread it on as well.  Lucky's is worth the trip!

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and a belated Happy Channukah to all,

Buddy (and Mrs. snowed in together in Kansas City)

Buddy,

My WWbbD? supply is all gone.  But I'm pretty sure bb got one in Buffalo.

Mine came in handy two nights ago.  Bobbi & I were shopping and hadn't eaten yet.  We were on the way to Sam's Club, so I thought we'd pick up something there.  As fortune would have it, our route took us right past Kopp's.  It would have been shameful not to stop.

Eggnog & Brandy was one of the custard flavors - outstanding.  You could really taste the brandy, as you can in all the Kopp's liquor enhanced flavors.  New Year's Eve brings Chambord Alexander and Kahlua & Cream.  I think these are each once a year offerings.

Snowed-in in K.C. - I think that's a good start on a country song.

Merry Christmas to all,

Jim

It's more like the start of a week and a half of indulgent eating that includes copious amounts of Barbecue, Fried Chicken, Mexican, Burgers, and more Barbecue.

Already been to LC's ('Que), The Cabbage Roll (German), Taqueria Mexico (guess), El Pollo Rey (Mexican Grilled Chicken-amazing; I'll be starting a trip report soon).

Toady we're cooking Christmas Dinner for Mrs. Roadhouse's aunt and uncle (two of many).  Looking down the road to Stroud's, Winstead's, various Barbecue stops, maybe some soul food, and maybe even a pork tenderloin sandwich!

We'll keep you posted.  Merry and Happy,

Buddy

12/31 @ 17:30 is possible, but has to be confirmed with the boss.  We are going to a movie, need to check when it gets out.

The sundae of the month is also unbelievable, so I may take one for the team and order that.

Buddy,

Thanks for the tip. Nina & I went to the Parthenon and Lucky's today and purchased a container of kajmak. Both carried the identical product. It's thawing in the frig right now.

Hope you picked up a loaf of Lucky's amazing bread to go with the kajmak!  Say, that would make a fine New Year's Eve repast-a bottle of good wine, a loaf of Lucky's bread, and a tub of kajmak.  Tune in the ol' TV box to Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve and you've got a party!

Hey Contingent & friends--Can anyone post the TMJ piece to YouTube? I'm trying to get an official Roadfood channel started on YouTube, a place for Roadfooders to post videos of their adventures, as well as a home for tv appearances by the Sterns and others.  (And I welcome any suggestions and input and ideas that more experienced YouTube users have. This is the first time I've used YouTube for something other than showing my kids nauseatingly cute videos of puppies and furry kittens doing silly things!).
The url is http://www.youtube.com/us./OfficialRoadfood.  About all I've done is create the channel and create some playlists with roadfood-related videos already on YouTube. I will post this on a broader forum as well, but wanted to start here since The Contingent story is such a great video!

We went back to McBob's yesterday for the Friday fishfry.  It is a very popular fishfry, with people waiting to be seated when we were leaving.  It was a good meal, but not the favorite fishfry of anyone in our group.

Of course we are now famous.  As the gentlemen at the next table were leaving, one asked if we were part of Roadfood.  My camera flashes gave us away.

Walleye.

Grouper and walleye.

Perch and grouper.

And this thing.  Home fries smothered with nacho cheese, onions, and corned beef.
