Mimi's has finally made it to Tennessee. I haven't been to one in about fifteen years, when it was a young upstart, with decent food. Any chance it has stayed at that level?

I've never eaten at a Mimi's Cafe, but the chain is now owned by Bob Evans.

We would take my Mom out to lunch in Laguna Hills to the Mimi's Cafe there. It is very similar to the 'upper-end ' standard fusion wraps and sandwiches place. We saw several of them in SoCal before we moved. I would put them in a group with O'Charlies and Bennegans and the Carrols (western Version)...A bit more garden decor than most of those, but a major step up from the Denny's, Jerry's Norm's group...but not quite a 'focus on dinner entrees' level. Lots of office workers going to lunch daily... They compete well with Marie Callendar's chain out there.

Pete, I was never impressed with them before, so I wouldn't think they have made a big improvement in their expansion!

For Poverty Pete.... Is it "Road food"? No.

IMHO, it is a decent "chain" offering fresh food, and a wide variety for many tastes. Is that so bad? Sorry, but the Folsom, CA Mimi's is a huge step above some of the local "road food dumps" around here.

I am ready to be bashed for my opinion, but, anyone (?), any good "road food" in the Sacramento/Folsom area? Even the Sheepherder's Inn has given up the ghost!

            Lucky to still have Rudy's"

http://www.mimiscafe.com/ NOT "road food" but in my opinion, a great variety of very fresh food, for all tastes.

Mimi's seems to be a "take Mom to lunch" place. My mother likes to go to Mimi's and I take her there. I don't like the food much, the portions are gigantic. My mom likes to take another meal home, so the giant portions agree with her.

I have to say, I got a grilled vegetables on ciabatta thing that was ok. The vegetables were grilled very nicely. But the bread and condiments were mediocre. My sister got a starter size pasta with seafood dish that could have fed 3 people. It was in the Starter section of the menu! It was creamy and bland. She loved it.

I would rather have a smaller portion with better flavor, buti if my mom wants to go, we go! I can put up with less than stellar food if that makes her happy.

Mimi's has pretty good breakfasts, but their lunch/dinner options are average. An avocado omelette with a buttermilk muffin is the thing to get there, it's what I always get. It's a friendly place and definately leaps and bounds above Denny's or Ihop for breakfast/brunch.

That's it, zataar. That's exactly it! I've never been there, other than taking my mother, who likes to go there.

There is a Mimi's Cafe not far from me here in Las Vegas. There is also a Claim Jumper; an Applebees; as well as the other usual national chains like Chili's and Marie Callendars. They don't cut it as far as I am concerned, as OK to Good seems to be a fair rating.

I am not surprised to hear Mimi's is owned by Bob Evans. As a former midwesterner, Bill Knapp's comes to mind. Mimi's is in that same league.

Maybe they will put one out my way.
