Mimi's with Poverty Pete Mon, 10/10/11 2:32 PM (permalink)
Poverty called me yesterday and indicated that he was coming through Knoxville and suggested that we meet at Mimi's in Turkey Creek.  I had never been there before and checked it out on the internet.  It turns out that they are mostly in California where is Poverty had first tried them.  My daughter has ate there before and indicated that their breakfast is very good which it was.  Poverty had a Santa Fe omlet and I had their country fried steak.  Both werre very good and served with fruit juice and eggs and toast.

A very nice appearance, clean, generous portions and tasty.

Mimi's originated in Southern CA, the first store in Yorba Linda. It was wonderful. We get a meal at our local store...every six weeks or so. we've also breakfast-ed at the store in Cary, NC. Since the originator sold, the new owners have pretty much stayed true to the 'bistro' concept. Some menu changes have been...not good. some have been great.

The original owners' sons, once their non-compete clause expired, started their own small SoCal chain. The Lazy Dog. A terrific place !

Among 'national' chains, Mimi's pretty much does it right. Corn Chowder. yum.

I've never been to Mimi's either. My co-worker has and did not have good things to say about the service, but he rarely has good service at any establishment he visits. Would you say their food is similar to home cooking?

I cook a lot and what I had was better than what I prepare.  I cook about every day and usually something different each time.  A very good experience for me.  Poverty Pete suggested it as I had never ever heard of the place.  Beautiful building, very clean and hot food.

We have a Mimi's Cafe just a few miles away in Allen, TX.  Sadly, like most chains we have gone to here in the Republic of Texas (TGIF, Romano's, Roadhouse, etc.) the food is not as good as in Cali or back East.  And, it's noisier than Hell with loud talking men, cackling women, and screaming crumb-crunchers everywhere.

Bob Evans owns the Mimi's Cafe chain. And it seems Mimi's is struggling financially.

Totallie, The Simms family is very nice.  I sold Mrs. Simms (I forget her first name) a couple custom fireplace screens.
I didn't know that they sold to Bob Evans.
Does Mimi's have the Bob Evans menu?

Tried The Lazy Dog in Santa Clarita while meeting a high school friend I hadn't seen in 40 years.  I didn't know that they were connected.  Are they all in malls?  I didn't like what I ordered, but everyone else did.

I wasn't in my right mind that day.  Who orders a bowl of chili?
