With the holidays approaching, I've been craving mints. Then I realize (like so much else) there's so many subvariations: Peppermint Spearmint Wintergreen (is this a mint?) now invented mints (candies/gum, etc): vanilla mint, ice mint, ?chocolate mint?, cool mint Who can add to the list?

I've always loved wintergreen the best. I don't know if it's technically a mint, but it is actually a native plant that usually grows in evergreen forests. When I was a kid I grew up chewing on leaves of checkerberry plants. Didn't find out until I was in my 30s that checkerberry and teaberry are just alternate names for wintergreen.

Does anyone remember the peppermint "puffed" balls that would just melt in your mouth? I remember as a child that you could buy them in a can, or bag, and were in red and green (peppermint and spearmint) flavors. Does anyone know if these can still be purchased or if they still make them? The ones you can buy now (soft peppermint balls) are close but not like the ones of old. I would appreciate any help or information you can give. Thanks...

Unfortunately "Bob's"; most famous for their peppermint "stick" and "ball" candies, went out of business several years ago. They were located in Albany, GA; just a short hour's drive from my abode in Bainbridge. Alas, they WERE quite delicious, and had been a part of my family's Christmas tradition for decades past.

I too have tried to locate the "puffed" mint balls. They were my moms favorite. I have found the soft mint balls but they are not the same. These would absolutely melt in your mouth. I honestly don't think they are made anymore. I've searced the internet high and low with no luck.

Paula Deen used the puffballs in her peppermint pie on one of this years Food Network specials, so they must be available somewhere. I'll keep looking and let y'all know.

I like the red and white chewy peppermints that are kind of shaped like large tootsie rolls. I haven't seen those around here lately but they've always been a favorite. Andrea

The York Co. that makes the peppermint patties, recently put out little round mints with a white peppermint shell and a dark chocolate filling. They come in a blue and silver round tin box. They're pretty yummy.

How could anyone forget Junior Mints, they are the best! I like the new Orange Mints from Lifesaver, they have a really nice taste. I've been wondering what the Sweet Mints taste like, but have never bought them.
