Mobile Payments Questions

Hello, I run a Silicon Valley startup that allows merchants (such as restaurants) to accept mobile payments, meaning that customers can come in and pay with a pre-paid account on a phone instead of a plastic debit or credit card. Our particular system uses barcodes, similar to the way that you can now pay at Starbucks Coffee with a barcode. The main advantage is that it's cheaper than credit card processing for the merchant by more than half on average, and that you can send out digital coupons to customers with the app. I have a few questions for restaurant owners. 1. Have you looked into accepting mobile payments at all? 2. Do you know how much you pay for credit and debit card processing right now? 3. Does your restaurant have its own gift card program? 4. Does your restaurant have its own loyalty program? 5. Which POS system do you use right now (or if you don't have one, why not)? 6. Are you interested in changing your POS system? 7. Would your wait staff use a system that handled tips by depositing them into an account electronically, or would they prefer cash tips? Any feedback you can offer would be extremely helpful. Thanks! Aaron

Hi, A lot of merchants actually don't know how much they really pay for credit card processing, which is why I asked. Many merchants also don't like their POS systems, and are interested in other options. Some merchants do like what they have. Square is an interesting option, but it's not actually a way for customers to make mobile payments--it's a way to become a merchant using your mobile phone. The technology I'm working on allows the customer to actually make a payment with the phone without involving a plastic card at all. Thanks for the feedback so far, Aaron
