We'll be in Cedar Rapids Iowa for turkey day week-end but our plane lands in Moline. Any great roadfood or foodie adventures in the area?
An acquaintance of mine lives in CR so I posed your question to him. Here's his response:
Hmm... Well, I'm no connossieur of fine cuisine ... heck, we hardly ever eat out ... but, we like a couple Mexican places, Casa Las Glorias and Fiesta del Sol. Casa is just off I-380 on the E side of the Blairs Ferry Rd exit; Fiesta is at the intersection of Hwy 100 (Collins Road) and 1st Ave NE.
Of course, depending on what you consider "around" C.R. the Amana Colonies are 20 min SW, and all the food is great, there. The Ox Yoke Inn is legendary.
Al & Irene's is great BBQ. The ambience is non-existant, though. Basically, it's a hole-in-the-wall with award-winning BBQ.
Our favorite is Genghis Grill. It's a "Mongolian feast" where you choose all your raw foods from a buffet-style bar, and hand the bowl to the chef who fries it on a huge grill. You pick everything: meats, veggies, spices, sauces. If you don't like it, it's your fault. ;O) $10 for one bowl, $13 for all-you-can-eat. I generally get 90% meat, ask for my "starch" (e.g. steamed or fried rice) on the side, and one bowl fills me up but good.
The Vernon Inn is a Greek restaurant. Been many years since I've been there but, it was always good.
North Country Steakhouse is one of those grill-your-own-steaks places. Too expensive, IMHO, but very tasty. (I always do up a skillet of portabellos, too, mmm-MMM!).

Rich also told me that our mutual acquaintance Larry eats out more in one month than Rich does in a year, so if I can get Larry to reveal any other local places I'll be sure to post them.
