Moose Recipes?

I was fortunate to get some tasty moose meat: steaks, burger, stew meat, and sausage. I have one suggestion for people who may want to make a moose stew-this may work with deer as well as elk. You simply get Liptons onion soup mix, combine it with 3 cups of juice, maybe apple or Juicy-Juice and about a cup of olive oil. Throw in chopped carrots, potatoes, and celery. Cook overnight in a crock pot on low. I think even people with an aversion to game may like it. Anyhow-does anyone have any suggestions on making a "moose loaf" or meat balls?

Lucky you! Moose, in my opinion, is like a cross between venison and lean beef. The best moose I've had is as follows Cut meat into thin, long "steaks". Season and spread with cream cheese. Heat an oven safe pan to high and "blacken", then bake until cheese is soft. As for meatloaf or meatballs, make sure to include ground pork or fatty ground turkey. Good luck cy

Bunny, After reading your last three posts, I get the jokes. Personally, I think they are funny. I doubt the moderators will think so though. I think you have a choice to make here. You can have fun for a very limited time or actually join this community of friends. Hear those thundering hooves? They are moderators, well known for riding moose, bearing down quickly and deleting you forever. Well, I hope you make the right choice here as we all have a sense of humor, but no one likes a troll.

Well, I've been dealing with game for more than 60 years and when it comes to moose, I've never found it difficult to cook. Bear in mind that moose meat is venison and you always remove as much fat as you can find, and then you never cook it beyond a little less than medium

Bear in mind that moose meat is venison and you always remove as much fat as you can find, and then you never cook it beyond a little less than medium I think the thing I have learned with game is it must be cooked slowly. A friend, from work, gave me some moose meat last year. When I cooked it on the stove, in a frying pan, came out extremely tough. I was told, also, to NOT salt moose before cooking it. I managed to get black bear meat, tenderloins, but is it normal for bear meat to taste fishy?

Bunny, Perhaps the only missing ingredient with your beloved canned salmon , egg and white sauce recipe is moose balls. Yes, I do think you are still a troll, but a very good and funny one. I do hope you stay around...I love your subtle humor, especially when very few others get it. You are truly an artist of the first order.

Cooking roasts slowly is fine. Cooking steaks slowly is deathly. A fishy tasting piece of moose meat is from an animal that was not properly cared for in the field or afterwards. It's spoiled.

I have to be specific Jeep-black bear meat may differ from grizzly??? I really do not know a lot about game meat until the past two years. I had had deer meat in the past and that is relatively simple to make. I think it's easier to make than moose because deer can pass in tacos or spaghetti. I went to a pow wow once and someone used meet to stuff shells. It was good-but moose have a distinctly different flavor from dear. I would like to try elk one day as well.

Some friends of mine are big time hunters. All I ever get is the testicles. Moose, bear, elk, all kinds of testicles. I like them deep fried but would appreciate any recipes you guys might have. Especially since I don't like the crunch.....they make when you bite into them.

DO NOT FRY YOUR TESTICLES IN EXTRA-VIRGIN OLIVE OIL. THEY WILL SMOKE AND BURN!!!! You can marinate them for 15 minutes or use a rub, if you do not want them crunchy.
