Morganton, North Carolina, area

I will be doing a mini wine tour in the Morganton, North Carolina, area, and lunch will time up to be eating in Valdese or Morganton. I will definitely be in that area, and even a slight detour east to Hickory is out of the question. I did a search and found some good recommendations all throughout North Carolina but not much in the two towns/area I mentioned. Does anyone have a can't-miss place in either town? Otherwise, I saw there's a Denny's in Morganton! :) Thanks, EdD

Can't let you go to a Denny's in North Carolina, of all places. I can't recommend any restaurants from personal experience, but did a quick search. DixieDining.com turned up nothing, which is worrisome. Of what I found Judge's Riverside BBQ could be worthwhile. Morganton is a county seat. That means a courthouse. Guaranteed you will find good lunches and breakfasts within a block of the courthouse. Just follow anyone carrying a briefcase. There is a farmer's market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Also Millstone Market though take-out only, looks promising. A town like Morganton, especially one in the south, has all sorts of down home eating potential.
