A McDonald's restaurant in West Jefferson, Ohio where breakfast was served on china, cups and saucers and everything, and tableware was stainless. And then there was the Charcoal Pit on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands where you could eat, watch a movie and drink champagne with peaches.

Long before there was a Roadfood, and even before many of you were born there was a place called the Exchange Cafe. It was around Wall St NYC in the heart of the Stock Exchange. It would never exist in todays world. You entered, took what you wanted, sat down and ate and then on the way out told the cashier what you had eaten and she would ring it up. I guess folks were more honest back then.

One of the Classics that did not go on once the Owner past away. Always there when we where home. Just good Cracker Cooking. Allen's Cafe Always had the fried turtle. http://www.dizzyrambler.com/features/AllensCafe/cafemain.html Years ago for us at least was Giants Camp, Gibsonton, FL. for Breakfast. The place was a main stay until a few years ago . Open 24 hrs. and after a Nite at the races at East Bay, the place filled. Owned by a retired Carnie Giant. But 24/7 the best Diner food in the area. Fisherman going to work at 2 AM to Corporate Salesman unwinding with a good coffee and Sandwich, all there for the food. Trucks could not get into the parking lot and both sides of the HWY. had trucks 24/7 http://www.teddwebb.com/legends/al_tomaini.html

The Briggitine Monastery in Amity, Oregon. Out of this world fudge that you must purchase from a robed monk after ringing a bell.

http://www.brigittine.org/ You can buy the monk's truffles and fudge online, which I do every Christmas... although I'm sure it would be more fun in person. I was at Mariscos Chihuahua in Tucson recently and a mariachi band came in, serenaded the couple sitting next to me with several songs, and then left. No one in the restaurant seemed to notice. However, my most surreal experience was with the guys at this place in Chimayo. We were having a very unusual conversation about life, the universe, and everything, when one of the guys looked up into the sky and exclaimed "Look at the moon... it's all broken!" It was a cloud.
