What about honey mustard or jalapeno mustard? If it's mustard... I'll try it. :~) Joe Oh, my sweety will only eat her burger w/ mustard.

agnesrob I chose yellow but it really depends on my mood. I love mustard, all kinds and I love them all on a hotdog! Agreed, unless it's a sweet/honey or fruit mustard as I don't particularly care for them. But a nice acidic yellow or brown mustard...absolutely! Brad

I don't eat many hotdogs but when I do I like either honey mustard or a spicy mustard. I don't care as much for the plain yellow. NYPizzaNut, I watched an episode of Julia and Jacques where they made hamburgers. Neither of them used mustard so you are in good company.

Tastytoo, thanks for being brave enough to say you like Honey Mustard. I bet most folks here have never tried it on a hot dog. I'm not saying you should use it on a Chicago Style dog. :~) Has no one mentioned Dijon?? On a chili dog it's strictly plain yellow mustard at my house. Joe

I can barely choke down a Hofmann hot dog without it. Well, I'm being a little overdramatic, but it makes a huge difference for me. Good yellow mustard with a nice jalapeno bite to it.

Mustard doesn't go well with the two items I like on hot dogs, which are marinara sauce or green olive tapenade. If I'm out of those two items, I'll apply a light squiggle of French's yellow to go with the medium heavy layer of ketchup and tiny plonk of Del Monte relish.

Hell, I don't know. I've never had one of those. It's a jarred spread I get at Trader Joe's, made of chopped green olives, garlic, lemon juice, and other tasty stuff.

Looks like some debate on tha Muffaletta / Tapenade thing. One company, Fusano, sells both a Muffaletta and a Tapenade olive spread. Joe

Fusano happens to be one of my favorite California olive oils, by the way.

Wow, I never thought of putting olive tapenade on my hotdog but I'm sure I would like it. BTW I make my own olive "stuff" for homemade Muffalettas or even heros. I buy jarred roasted peppers, pitted Kalamotta olives, green olives, put them in my little Oskar food processer, add some olive oil, a small garlic clove and alittle white wine vinegar. I process until all is chopped together. It's not the traditional version, just my own concoction. My daughter and I can eat it all by itself. Maybe I should try it on a hotdog.

I make a similar one with the addition of capers, minced red onion and thyme. Don't have a processor so I hand chop/mince everything. Never thought to put it on a hot dog but do put it on burgers.

I like a spicey brown mustard, German horseradish, or whole grain mustard. Anything with some character to it.

I like any kind of mustard on a dog but I think I prefer yellow mustard. Also prefer Cincy chili as well with onions and cheese.

In New York, anything but Gulden's Spicy Brown on a hot dog (or on pastrami) seems exotic and out of place. I personally will try any crazy mustard you put in front of me. I love the stuff. The only mustard I won't eat is plain yellow (particularly French's). It doesn't really seem to be the same food as the brown varieties.

Capt, you might like their olive mixes then. And I bet you would love a Muffaletta. We might need a new thread... Olives on a hot dog. Sounds good to me. And thanks for the olive mix recipes Agnesrob and Mike! I have tried a mayo based horseradish sauce on a dog and liked it. It's acceptable to have mayo on a hot dog here in Texas. I have a few million Spanish speaking folks who will back me up on this one. :~) A favorite of my family are the hot dog shaped sausages and with their own invention of mustards and other toppings. Hillshire Farms and Eckrich make quite a few flavors Joe
