It's true that we have over one hundred coffee houses in Austin but there is only one king: Once Over Coffee Bar on s.1st st.

Yeah, I saw that after the fact.  My first instinct is to go for quality.  To each his own, I guess.  Anyway, if I drank 40 oz of coffee in a single morning, I'm pretty sure my heart would stop.

I agree, pourover is best howver as evidenced by by my list there are some fantastic "drip coffee" houses around.
- I couldn't see myself spending $12-$15 a day for 3 12 oz cups of pourover  (my last cup of 12 oz pour over in Pittsburgh was $4.85!) , luckily I've developed a tolerance for quantity over the years.

I figure if many coffee houses are returning to drip (or offering both) in the coffee capital of the nation (Seattle) then eventually that trend will hit the rest of the country, therefore drip can't be all that bad-

Keep in mind the senior citizens on this forum don't differentiate between Starbucks, Independent drip and third wave pourover , to them it's all the same.

Coffee's coffee. If it comes in a cup it better not be a cardboard or paper cup, and it better not have a stupid name. Another thing, if you call a small cup of coffee anything but small I don't want it. If you call a large cup of coffee anything but large I don't want it. And if you pour it over anything other than the bottom of the cup I don't want it.

I defer you to your other half (see above)! I think you should drag take  him to Cup O Joe- he might actually like it- looks like there's one not too far from your neck of the woods too!

Well, coffee ice cream and coffee milk are good things. I've never had a coffee shake. Sounds good, though. Oh, and I've been to Cup O Joe.

Thank you for clarifying that.  Yes, there are several Cup O Joe in the area.  We'll be going by the one in Easton this afternoon.  Maybe I can get the senior citizen to stop......but he's so in love with Waffle House coffee......my chances might be slim.

Was trying to figure out somewhere to go that has a fireplace yesterday.   Turns out Panera Bread has one ... and has a hot chocolate with whipped cream and chocolate marshmallows that the Other Half absolutely loved.  (She's got more of a sweet tooth than I)
So, considering where I live is somewhat a wilderness for coffee houses ... especially ones with a nice big fireplace ... I'll say Panera.

I like starbucks and go there from time to time.  Otherwise I really do not have much of a preference for where I go for coffee.

Many changes for the first half of the year...

I've updated my primary list as follows
added:
Tryst- Washington Dc
The Blind Dog Cafe-,  Washington DC
Coffee Emporium- Cincinnati OH

In addition:

Lamplighter Coffee  Roasting Company in Richmond has graduated from the secondary to primary list

Unfortunately Coffee Tree Roasters in Pittsburgh has not been up to snuff over my last few visits and has been
moved to the secondary list (the only reason why its still on here is for sentimental reasons as it was my "go to" coffee house when I lived in Pittsburgh)

Lastly, Mornings in Paris in Portland ME has shut it's doors and moved to Kennebunk. This is the second time that a favorite coffee house in Portland has closed since I started this thread (at least this time they only moved 25 miles down the road) Now I'll need to find a new favorite coffee house in Portland as we're visiting for a weekend next month, although I do plan a stop at Mornings in Paris on the way up

Better hurry up and come! We may be buried under a Haboob by that time! Or blown away by a Monsoon!
The structure in the picture is the new Latter Day Saints Temple that was just built in SE Gilbert. They just had an open house. It's beautiful inside and out. The beautiful cloud behind it is your Haboob!
The picture below is your typical Monsoon Thunderstorm.
Typically, the Haboob comes first followed by the Monsoon.
They don't last long but combined, which they do on occasion, it creates an effect known as "The S--- Hitting The Fan"!" />" />
