Mysteries and recipes

Have any of you read Diane Mott Davidson's books? They are light mysteries and the main character is a caterer. She always includes recipes af foods she prepares in the books. Today I made a mushroom soup from one of her books and it is wonderful. I plan to try some more. (I copy the recipes before I return the books to the library)

My disappointment was that she does not include ALL the recipes. The one I liked the most (I think it was in Prime Cut) wasnot included in the recipes she had covered from the book. Outside of that, she writes good books!

I read Sticks and Scones, which was pretty good, and have the paperback which I hope to make her scones recipes from the back. Glad to hear her recipes are good. Not a mystery, but Dorothea Benton Frank's Shem's Creek has some biscuit recipes in the back, and I have the paperback for that as well. Has anyone tried them?

Model's Mushroom Soup 5 tablespoons butter 1 large carrot, chopped 1 large onion, chopped 2 celery sticks, chopped 8 ounces mushrooms, thinly sliced 4 tablespoons flour (I used gluten free) 6 cups chicken stock (she reccommends homemade, but I used Kitchen Basics) 2 tablespooons chopped fresh thyme 1 tablespoon chopped fresh marjoram 2 tablespoons whipping cream 6 tablespoons dry white wine salt & freshly ground pepper Cook carrot, onion and celery, covered, in 2 T. butter for 15-20 minutes until soft. Cool, then puree in blender. Saute mushrooms in 1 T. butter until cooked through, about 5 minutes. Melt last two tablespoons butter, add flour to make a light blond roux. Slowly whisk in stock. Cook over medium heat until hot a thickened, about 10 minutes. Add everything else (including pureed vegetables and mushrooms) Cook until hot and bubbly. Add salt and pepper to taste. We really enjoyed this.

By light mystery, I mean the reader is spared the blood and guts. People get shot, stabbed or whatever and die. It doesn't give me nightmares.
