Okay, there is lots of good BBQ from one end of this country to the other and I know 'cause I've traveled through every state during my twelve years of playin' music from one end of the country to the other including Alaska. That said, the best BBQ is definitely in North Carolina! Lexington stands as ground zero and is the bench mark for all other. Some favorites: Clyde Cooper's in Raleigh, Stamey's in Greensboro, Short Sugars just outside of G'boro, The Red Pig in Cabarrus County and any place you go in Lexington. My next favorite place for BBQ is Memphis, Tennessee. Now I'm talking pork, of course, and that's my personal favorite but I don't want to leave out the beef and the sausage. That's all good stuff! But pulled pork can't be beat as far as I'm concerned.

Oh, one other comment. If you're still looking for great BBQ in Asheville I haven't found the place yet and I know Asheville pretty well. When in the area I always drive over the East Tennessee, yes, Tennessee, to the tri-city area and go to Ridgeways. It's worth it. Great sides dishes too.

You're probably right that the best BBQ YOU'VE ever tried is in North Carolina.

But you can't say with any authority that it's the "best BBQ" in the U.S. unless you've eaten at the "Holy Three" (Smitty's, Black's, Kreuz) in Lockhart, TX, and City Market in Luling. If you've had the brisket at those four places, then you should say so.

Otherwise, those of us that have been there have no choice but to believe that you're simply reaching a faulty conclusion based on incomplete information.

ChristopherAnn Sorry, But but he is correct. I have eaten at two of the three places in Lochart, as well as some of the best in K.C., Tenn, Alabama and you name it. Hands down the best overall Q you well get will be in N.C. By the way the true "Holy Trio" (As EVERYONE knows) is Lexington #1, Stameys and Wilbers.

Yea, what he said. Also include Ga Pig, Ott's in Houston and Goode's in Houston as being good but not great.
