Littleman Try Millie's Diner for some great country food at Exit 74A or Exit 74B off I 95 in Richmond, VA for great southern food. You might find something besides a good burger. Wandering Jew is not in favor of Millie's so try Dairy Bar Restaurant in Richmond, VA at Exit 78 off I 95 for fried chicken. Millie's Diner @ 2603 East Main St., Richmond, VA 804 - 643 - 5512. http://www.milliesdiner.com/ The Dairy Bar Restaurant @ 1602 Roseneath Rd., Richmond, VA 804 - 355 - 1937. http://www.dairybarrestaurant.com/ I never said I wasn't in favor of Millie's- I've never been there- I'm merely pointing out based on their menu that they do not serve "country food" or "southern food" as you indicated. (They do have fried green tomatos on the menu) so I stand corrected, there's at least one menu item that falls in that category.

At Exit 73 in Dunn, NC get off I 95 going W on Cumberland go about a mile take a right on General Lee and next left on Broad for some fine fried chicken at Kim's. Don't let the name bother you. They sell a BBQ sandwich but 99% country food. Kim's BBQ House @ 900 W. Broad St., Dunn, NC. 910 - 892 - 7750.

W Jew I edited my post above and said you were not in favor of Millie's and gave the OP a better choice in The Dairy Bar for good burgers. Good luck.

If you don't mind driving 30 miles out of the way for the best burger's in NC get off I 95 going S at Exit 31 at St. Paul's, NC and go E. 10 miles on # 20 which is Broad St. Turn right on # 87 and go 15 miles to # 41 and turn left. Melvin's is on the right 4 miles up the road which is Broad St. also. If you would rather have a nice southern lunch or dinner stop before Melvin's at Front Porch Cafe for a real southern treat. Help yourself to the fried chicken at the buffet and some great desert then head W on Broad St. which is # 41 and go 25 miles to Lumberton, NC. Going S to FL don't go back to St. Paul's or the way you came in as that's out of the way. Lumberton, NC has some fine road food so be on the look out for something on your return trip. Melvin's Hamburger's @ 133 West Broad Street, Elizabethtown, NC 910 - 862 - 2763. Front Porch Restaurant @ 1100 West Broad St., Elizabethtown, NC 910 - 862 - 3330. http://frontporchrestaurant.com/Home_Page.html

I have not been to B & D for burgers. I believe the Big Mike Burger at The Distillery would make you happy along with the 100 + craft beers. I really believe one of the 11 Crystal burgers at Crystal Beer Parlor would prove to the supreme. The CBP is 77 years old and going strong. Best place in Savannah for some good food, cold drinks and good fun. joerogo chewingthefat douginvirginia chewingthefat IMHO my restaurant serves as good a burger as any place in the Country, !/2 lb, hand pattied, locally raised, slaughtered, and processed [Norman Shriver Meats], hand cut twice fried, french fries, toasted Sesame seeded 5" roll, all the toppings,....problem is I'm about 55 miles from I95, near the Pa. Md. line! Clearly another example that you never miss an opportunity to plug your place. Did I name my place?? I don't know what your problem is, but clearly you got many...and I would hope that if you put the blood sweat, and money into opening a restaurant, you to would plug it when possible. Your snarky attitude is well known. Since you live in Luray, why don't you continue to search for new much deeper Caverns. By any chance were you talking about [link=http://chubbysbbq.com/</a></font></font></b>]http://chubbysbbq.com/<...lt;/font></b> 16430A Old Frederick Road, Emmitsburg, MD‎ - (301) 447-3322‎??? Listen, we have many vendors who are active posters on this site. Biker Jim, Chicago style Dogs, etc. IMHO they add a great deal to this site, and some of us enjoy the updates on their business. After all, in reality, they are what this site is all about. Danke, Joe!

If the OP is seriously considering detouring to Frederick County for a burger, my advice would be to save $3 and 30 minutes and get one just as good at Black Hog in Frederick rather than driving all the way to Emmitsburg. Kind of a stretch to put Chubby's in this thread.

The one place I am going to try (unless otherwise told) is B & D in savannah,GA were staying there overnight and heard about this place. All the other suggestions are along the driving part of the trip, going to FLA and back to phila. Someone also mentioned roast beef in MD chaps? any good? Thanks again for all the responses they are mighty helpful. Jay

Great authentic food for a great price at Dukes Barbuecue in Walterboro SC. All you can eat buffet is about $9 I was there 10 years ago on my drive to Fl and plan on visiting this year in Dec. Its a couple of mins off I95. Great reviews are on various websites. GA Pig decent and quick in Brunswick Ga just off I95.. Good seafood (but usually a wait) at Dixie Crossroads in Titusville FL.
