It has been 4 years since the last Cincinnati Style Chili and Coney Crawl and it is time to do it again.

What do you all think about October 5, 12 or 26??

We can also hit the New Jungle Jims for a break between chili stops among other things.

Just remembered the Memphis tour is oct 18-19.

It doesnt have to be October, just throwing out an idea.

The 5th or the 26th would work for me. The 12th is a holiday weekend so me and the better half will most likely be travelling out of state.

OK

After looking at the calendar and getting a PM, October 26, is also not a good day so do we hold it off until the spring?  My November is not good, and December is holiday season so.....

What do you all think?

Think "Palate Cleanser" between courses.

I'd love to do this. I'm available the 26th; the 5th / 12th, I may have to be in NYC for our branch office's move.

I'm pretty booked in November.

What about January as an alternate?

I'd eliminate Eastside from your list - they are very new and their chili is very pedestrian, and they are much further out than the rest, adding a lot to your travel time

Agreed, although I do stop up for 99 cent conies on Tuesdays on occasion. It's not bad, just not as good as the others. Although I do like their sandwiches.

I drove past there a week or so ago; it appears that the name of the joint is now Eastside Café, not Chili.

Chili Fans -

After further review of the schedules, I am now think this tour should be moved back to the spring!  I would love to do it this fall but with other tours already scheduled and my availability dwindling, I have come to the conclusion that SPRING '14 would be better.

Would love to make this tour- unfortunately with 2014 already booked up (glee club, cousin's wedding and train trip to DC  along with much needed new bedroom windows, closet doors and vertical blinds at home)  time and money is going to prevent that from happening  ...

the prospect of finally meeting TJ is a bit off-putting

I was recently told the City Council has to give larger tax incentives to lure companies here once those companies find out I live here

So.......maybe you could pretend you are the CEO of a good-sized business looking for a new HQ?  you'd probably not pay for your chili all day long

But, you've always insisted you like Greek food. And that so-called Cincinnati chili isn't, of course, chili, it's Greek meat sauce. Granted, I'm made that argument to you for some time without it changing your mind, but I'm always hopeful.

My sister and her family live in Blue Ash.  In all the years that I've visited out there I've only been to Blue Ash Chile and Skyline Chile.  Depending on your timing in the Spring, I might like to join you.  I've managed to try Montgomery Ribs too but not much else that would be Roadfood worthy in the area.  We're always focused on family when we go so we don't do too much exploring.

If you are doing a Chili Crawl in the Cincy area you really have to cross the river and hit Dixie Chili. http://www.dixiechili.com/

If you have never been there I think it is the best in the area for its type and I have eaten Camp Washington, Blue Ash, Price Hill and all the others.

Founded in 1929 by Nicholas D. Sarakatsannis, Dixie Chili set the standard for quality food at reasonable prices. "Papa Nick" developed his secret chili recipe using only the highest quality ingredients: 96% Fat Free Beef Chuck, Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese, Bermuda Onions, and 100% Semolina Wheat Spaghetti. He passed the recipe down to his sons — George, Chris, Panny and Spiros — who continue to serve the delicious and nutritious chili Nick served back in 1929, fresh from the kettle, everyday.

I've been back to Cincinnati but three times since graduating from UC in 1968. But I did stop for Cincinnati Chili off the freeway my last RV drive through a few years ago.

We will be in Indiana most of the month of May starting with the inaugural Indianapolis Grand Prix Indy Car race, then an RV.net B camper van Rally at Lake Monroe and then the Indy 500.

During my 6 years in Cincinnati chili really hadn't taken hold as a signature food. I don't recall ever having it back then. Maybe all that rotgut 3.2 beer they had back then clouded my brain.

I think one of the things that stands out about Dixie is the quality of the beans -- plump, meaty, done but not mushy.

You can get a six-way there: Five way with chopped fresh garlic.
