Skeeters Big Biscuits had it's
main location in Gainesville on U.S. 441, up the road from the UF
campus. Very popular with the students and visitors because there
was all sorts of sport memorabilia on the walls. And their biscuits
were big enough to fill a large plate - and you could have them any
way you wanted: with gravy; "pizza biscuit"; all the usual breakfast
As a college student back in 1984-1985, I used to go to retreats
at the Lake Yale Baptist Assembly near Orlando, and as we made the
425-mile trek back to Pensacola, Skeeters was a must (and yes, I
finished their biscuits and gravy with ease
). I still have
a T-shirt and souvenir menu, which at the Gainesville location, they
also had Chinese food on their menu, still trying to figure out why?
AFAIK, they tried to branch out to other locations like Lake City,
but reports said that it didn't compare to the original.
I have no idea if they're still open today: a Google search
had a few mentions, but nothing of the restaurant's status.
Right now it's 8:35 AM - the perfect time for the "Asher", which
was two eggs any way, a Big Biscuit, choice of meats, and a large
helping of hash browns.
For everyone in the Central Florida area: stay calm and hope
you guys pull through what's coming at you later today
