I'm a definite. Have invited a friend from the Jersey Shore to tag along, but he has not confirmed to me yet.

I'm in with an additional 5 or 6 people coming who aren't from Roadfood, including Steve Keiner 1999 winner (and last American) of the Nathans Hot Dog eating contest.

I'm in, with possibly my wife and a friend, and Coney Island Lou has asked me to give him a ride, but I havn't heard from him recently for confirmation.

Hope we aren't expected to compete wit Steve Keiner !!

    Cheers, John

I plan on being there plus a friend. Will the group be stopping back at GHI after Syds and Charlies? My friend and I have had the dogs at the first three stops and wanted to save our appetites for Clifton and Elizabeth. If the group is, any idea appx. what time? Thanks. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Our third stop will be Charlies. After that, we will be about 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the Parkway where we will proceed to Clifton. At this point, anyone wishing to cut the day short will be about 1 1/2 to 2 miles from the GHI. If you want, I can give you my cell number and we can keep in touch. You can meet us at Charlies when we are finishing up there and just follow us to Clifton.

We are in with 4! My mother and father plus my wife (aleswench) and I.

I need directions please. We will be coming down Mountain road in Mountainside on to RT 22 west. Is our first stop anywhere near the good butcher in Union?

Hi I'm new to the site--and a a New Jerseyan ... Where does this tour begin and does it get into South Jersey? I'd like to recommend Maui Dogs in Wildwood--they make their own dogs and ahave a wide variety of topping; fresh-cut french fries--all served in a wax-paper lined plastic dog bowl at outdoor tables.

I am glad that you folks will have good weather for the Hot dog tour.
I wish I could be there. Please think about us folks in the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida that are waiting to see where Frances is heading. Our forecast for the entire Labor Day weekend is rain, rain and wind.

I suppose it'd be a bit out of the way to include this rather interesting sounding hot dog stop?

The tour starts at 11:30 in Union NJ at the Galloping hill inn. The rest of the tour is in North eastern NJ. Come on up it is going to be fun.

    Ales,

The Union Pork Store is about halfway between the Galloping Hill Inn and Syd's. We may be able to drive past it coming from Syd's to Charlies. Hamburgers are available at all 5 places. Syd's probably makes the best burger.

This is my first post although I must admit that I've been "lurking" and enjoying some wonderful Roadfood information for a while. My husband and I are planning to be there for the hot dog tour on Saturday. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

It looks like I was able to convince my wife to attend (I had wanted to do something like this in the spring, glad I waited!) So add two more to the count. we'll stick it out through clifton.

With so many cars going, will parking be an issue??? From the pictures I saw on Holly Eats of Charlies Famous and Syd's look like storefronts where parking might be an issue. The other's (GHI, Rutt's and Hot Grill, seem fine, parking wise)

One other item, with so many cars trying to follow each other, any suggestions on directions from point to point, prior to meeting (or when we all meet) I can arm myself with maps and printouts galore, if the person ahead of me goes thru a light.... but, If someone could make a "Cheat Sheet"

Coming from NY, don't think I am the best person qualified...

The only place that parking will tough is at Charlies. We can maybe take a few cars over there and go back to the GHI (which is only 2 miles down the road with the Parkway in the middle) or just have everyone park further down on Michigan Ave. I wouldn't worry about it. Syd's is in a strip mall with plenty of parking. What I intend to do is to give directions to each place when we're ready to leave. We can all follow each other, but if we get split up, we'll have directions. Believe me, all of these places are simple to get to.

I just spoke to the owner of Charlies. There will be a few spaces behind the store, a few on the side street off Michigan Ave (where the side of the building faces) and some in the Post Office across the street which will be closing at 12:00. If we need more, we can park 2 short blocks down on Michigan Ave as the there is no parking on Michigan right near the store.
