Re:NOLA XMAS TRIP 2009
I've also stayed at the Dauphine.
It's one of my favorite places and I've stayed at many.
It was many years ago. We arrived about 9PM. As we were trying to check in there was a line of frantic people checking out.
When it was our turn we asked what the hurry was about. They said that a hurricane was due to hit the next day. (Not Katrina) Everyone was leaving town!
We asked if it would be safe and they said that there would be no problem and we could always go into the courtyard if we were afraid to be by a window.
The next morning we walked around the Quarter. We were the only ones on the street Everything was boarded up! I never knew that shutters were anything other than decoration. Not only were the shutters closed on all of the buildings, but they had chain link fencing on top of the shutters.
When the hurricane hit, it hit Pensacola. We were spared and the Picayune's headline read in huge print: PHEW
My favorite part was that when I was in the shower my traveling partner went downstairs and he brought me up the complimentary donuts.
The staff at the Dauphine are the nicest I've come across. They were so nice that I sent them a thank you gift when I got home! (I had a lunitic stalker calling them every few minutes about me and driving them crazy)
You won't do wrong staying there.
(If you have a lunatic calling you, the staff will by happy to tell them that you've changed hotels!!!)
Sure do wish I could join everyone in New Orleans.
I'm so depressed! I really want a Sazerac!
