NY Announces a winner... Sat, 11/12/05 10:39 AM (permalink)
I enjoyed reading this article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051111/ap_on_re_us/street_vendor_award

It's good to see street vendors being recognized. And even addresses some of the problems with street vending.

If the above link fails in the future, here's an alternative site to check out: http://www.streetvendor.org

Anybody know where this guy is set up?

"Midtown" is a bit too vague for me.

Mr. Babiel and his brother Wolfgang tended rows of Schaller & Weber sausages from the menu-plastered cart, usually parked on the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and 54th Street. He has also now has a beer garden, Hallo Berlin, on the West Side.

Above is a cut and paste from the streetvendor dot org site...

I read this in the local (Rochester)paper this morning. I think it's great that these hard working people have a chance to shine and be rewarded for what they do, usually year round and in bad weather. The descriptions of each finalists food offerings makes we want to go to NYC just to sample them.

My younger son is in the city the past few days for his senior trip, but I doubt they will have a chance or take the opportunity to eat some of this great food. Although there are several good restaurants they are eating at for dinner, my best guess is when I ask where he had lunch, I will hear a complaint about how expensive McDonalds is in the city. Oh well, at least he does love Philly Steak sandwiches, although I am still trying to get him to get more than just plain steak on them.

I saw that on the national news.... CNN or one of them.. I was salivating watching them sample so much food.....That is one thing New York should be proud of, their varied food on the run....
