NYC Diner bites the dust

When I worked in So-ho in downtown NYCity I ate lunch a number of times in the Moondance Diner. 6th Ave at Canal. Well I read today that after 70 years they are being kicked out of NYC and a condo or office building will be built there. They only leased the property and it is worth a lot of big bucks

You have seen the Moondance in a few movies, but don't ask me which.

RIP Moondance, I loved your BLTs ------------

RIP

Hopefully it's a typical diner and capable of being moved. Hate to loose it to a wrecking ball. Sorry for your loss. Chow Jim

There is a big ground swell to save this diner and there has been fund raisers to save it. If you go to the Yahoo forum called Roadside Fans, there is info on it there. There are plans to move it to Queens.

Today's the day. The Moondance leaves for the hills and plains of Wyoming.

Sold for $7500. Have no idea how much the rigger will charge to pick it up and put it on the trailer and who knows how much the trip will cost. But it will be located in a little town (population 500)in Wyoming and Roadfooders can stop by and have a "cup of joe" in a real NYCity diner. Bon voyage Moondance. I will miss you and your BLT sam-itches and rice pudding.

    Hello all ,

This past weekend our local paper had a story that the diner has made it to Wyoming . A small town of about 600 with on light and three bars . They need a good diner !!

Going from downtown NYCity to a 500 population town is going about as far as you can go. I remember waiting for a seat in NY but I doubt if that will happen out there "Where the deer and the antelope play".

I wonder if they will have the same menu ??? And the same cooks ? And the same gum chewing waitresses ??? Not likely.

Better than being tossed on the junk pile though!!! I'll have a BLT on white toast with some extra mayo on the side. Thanks.

The Downtown Express, a free weekly newspaper serving lower Manhattan, published an artcle and some photos of the diner being moved. The online version of that article can be seen here:

I wonder which city in Wyoming they are talking about. The population is too small to be high-profile like Cheyenne or Casper.
