NYC soup shop---what is the name?

I ate at a great soup place in NYC about 2 years ago when visiting the city, I can't remember the name. It was a tiny little hole in the wall, just kittycorner from the Empire State Building. Does any NYer know the name of the place? Thanks!

I will check it out, but there are sooo many eateries in NYC and ones that open up/close down.

You're not thinking of Hale and Hearty Soups are you?

I haven't been around the Empire State Bldg yet, but Hale & Hearty is a chain, located in many parts of NYC. I don't remember the quality of the soup, however. I like sometimes to get soup (sopa) from some small Hispanic places (such as Sucelt on 14th St & 7th Ave) which is real real homemade and delicious.

If tooslimnc ate on the block from 32nd to 33rd on the east side of 5th Avenue, he is out of luck as most of that block was torn down and there is now a skyscraper in its place.

Let your fingers do the walking. Go to the local phone company's online directory, superpages.com. Click on "Advanced Search", then click on "Search by Distance". For keyword, enter Restaurants. For search distance, set for 1/2 miles (yields over 800 hits). For street, enter "2 west 33rd st". For location, enter "New York, NY". Then select "Find It". A local map of the area pops up, along with restaurant names. Some cash-only restaurants are unlisted so the IRS does not find them. Some are listed under their corporate name. But, the map should tell you on what the street the restaurant was on, and you may recognize the name. As NYNM said, restaurants open up and close up all the time in that area.

I redid the search with business name "soup" (pulls listings out of the White Pages). I got Soup at 34 West 33rd Street, and Soup and Smoothie at 315 5th Avenue.

I believe it was on the east side of 5th Ave, so either it was torn down like you said or maybe it was that Soup at 34 West 33rd Street. Thanks for the input all.

There's been a few chain soup places in NYC. "Daily Soup" and "Hale and Hearty" come to mind. Daily Soup ran into money trouble a few years ago and were bought out by Devon & Blakely that operate a couple of locations near the ESB. There are 2 places that operate under the name Daily Soup but they are in Jersey. I've only been to Daily Soup and Hale & Hearty and I thought they were pretty good but expensive.
