Those folks who photograph everything they eat definitely have OCD.
 
It's lunchtime - where's my point-and-shoot?

"What's the deal" with these people called "Roadfooders" taking pictures of their food everywhere they go?  Can't touch it, smell it or taste it.  Not interested.  (said with deepest apologies to Jerry Seinfeld) 

It is very obvious that restaurants are now much more used to customers taking photos of their food.  If I get asked about it nowadays, it is usually from another patron and even that is happening less frequently. 

It is reassuring to know, that CarolinaBob and TravelinMan will still get yelled at occasionally.

When Jane and I started doing Roadfood, I got kicked out of restaurants more than a few times because the owner caught me taking pictures. That meant that either I was planning to open a competing restaurant or I was some sort of muckraking reporter taking a picture of a cockroach I'd found. The idea of reporting on a cheeseburger or bbq or fried chicken was unheard of.
 
Speaking of Roadfood's early days, here is a picture I took inside the very first real Texas barbecue we came across, in the back room of a market in the town of Waelder, some time in the early 1970s. I like the cardboard-box decor! If you look closely you can see a knife chained to the table for cutting the sausage links -- a smokehouse custom we haven't seen in a long time.
 

Nowadays the table would probably be detained under the Patriot Act.

These ideas seem to be a bit at odds with each other.
