Nachos. You love them. Don't lie.

Recently I rediscovered (maybe the right phrase is "gave into") nachos. I'm not talkin' home-broiled three-cheese-blue-organic-corn-chip-plated "Nachos", but the carnival and quickie-mart convolution of extra-salty fake Tostitos with hand-pumped "cheez" sauce. It tastes of Jurassic Park at the outdoor, Tilt-a-Whirl rides after your first joint, skating backwards at the rink, curling irons.

Nachos. The new hot dog.

Sorry Jessie, But in this case Nachos are the exception to LAYS claim, "Bet you can't eat just one"!
I have tried a few times, and I am afraid that if I were in the Donner party, I would be sharing the Nachos with everyone else.

The 7-11 ones are the best after a long night of beveraging. Especially with both chili and cheese on them. I think I had them sober once too and they werre still very tasty.

Nope--don't like them. Give me some stale chips, Colby cheese and a microwave, and they're much better, even without additional toppings.

This reminds me of the late 60's when my grandparents would get what they called "government cheese". It came off a truck that would pass through town and it got handed out to those that qualified (poor) for it. It was packaged in a 5 lb brick and foil wrapped, but wasn't like Velveeta. It made the best nachos I've ever eaten. And yes, I like the oozy cheese sauce kind, also

I love 'em at football games and sometimes at movies as a meal substitute. I come back from the snack bar with 'em studded with jalapeno slices to keep my wife and kids out of them.

OK I admit to giving in occasionally but nacho's like icecream are just not a pretty site when eatin by a guy with a full beard! regardless of a handful of napkins a nearby washroom is a must! I make a home style nacho dip... One pound groundmeat browned off with 3 tps A1, healthy shot of worceshire, one medium chopped onion, heaping tablespoon chopped garlic then drained and returned to pan, 2 cans of hot rotelle (canned chopped tomatoes, onions, peppers) warm through, half block of cream cheese, one tub processed nacho cheese with peppers, couple big handfuls shredded cheddar

Sorry, I think these can be good or bad. I used to like them but, as too much else, with the passage of time they seem to be using more fake stuff and bargain basement ingredients and I don't like 'em at too many places now. It's not that I'm against the basic concept of dumping "cheese sauce" over chips, and maybe throwing on a handful of chopped jalapenos, but the cheese sauce has to taste decent and the chips have to be edible on their own. That's too often not the case lately.

I'm no real fan of them, but if the chips are not overly salty, and served with Old El Paso Jalapeno Chez Goop I'll induldge.

We got government cheese for a while I was a kid. That and Velveeta have their place (I prefer jack cheese for nachos), but that stuff they pour out of a can and heat up at a ball game is truly gross. The worst part, though, is those godawful chips.

At home for a quick snack I just throw some refried beans, salsa, and shredded mozz or jack on some Trader Joe's chips and toast in the toaster oven. A little guac on the side is great but of course you don't want to heat it up.

This is going to be heresy, but my favorite "nacho" type snack is either the spinach or artichoke based dip surrounded by tortilla chips that you seem to be able to find all over the place nowadays. Sorry to all the nacho and salsa purists out there!

LOVE NACHOS no matter how they are served.. although i will admit that i prefer MELTED cheese on them to the can cheese goop,. but i could eat them every day..especially with some jalepenos and salsa and sour cream and ... oh well it's only 10:30 am and i'm getting a nacho craving.. this is sad........

    :)

if you can afford to be sinful, try nachos 'n' icecream...chocolate or vanilla! yummyy!!
i'm not sure if anyone tried this....deep-fry a piece of 6" flour tortilla on a deep-scoop ladle so that the tortilla takes the shape of a bowl. once tortilla bowl is cooled, put in two scoops of chocolate or vanilla icecream...voila....dessert!
i liked the combination; the tortilla which is slightly salted and sweet icecream...really blends! try it out and pray tell if this is a cool recipe

I like Velveeta. Must be memories from my youth. Grilled cheese made with Velveeta. Yum.

Makes great nachos. Velveeta plus a can of Rotel and some jalapenos. Heat & serve.

I am physically incapable of passing up nachos. Good, bad or mediocre.

Yep, I admit it. I love nachos with the gloppy cheez food stuff and smothered in sliced black olives. As long as I'm earning my Our Fathers and Hail Marys here, I'd like to confess a deep hankerin for Jack in the Box tacos.

    There. I did it.

I like them every now and then, but only the ones I make at
home with the blue chips, melted sharp cheddar, jalapeno slices, and cold fresh garlic salsa. Those "things" you get at the drive-in or the 7-11 with the mystery yellow sauce? NO!

Me too enginecapt. I think I'm going to die 5 years earlier because I can't break myself of the habit of getting 4 or 6 'Jack-In-The-Box' tacos whenever I drive by.

My vote is definitely for the homemade variety. When I'm really crazed, I make chips from good corn tortillas, top with colby/jack and strips of roasted poblanos or barker chiles and broil, then have with some cold sour cream on the side. Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum!

Maybe I'm twisted but I love nachos just about any way I can find them. When walmarts first opened up, they had snack bars that carried food such as popcorn, nachos with that orange hand pumped cheese etc, and anytime I went to walmart I always stopped at the snack bar for some of those nachos. Its rare nowadays to find a walmart (at least in So Cal) that has a honest to goodness snack bar instead of a Mcdonalds outlet but whenever I do, yep I get the nachos :)
