Do you take them? I couldn't keep my eyes open so around 3:00 PM today I took a nap. I must have been exhausted because I slept until 7:00 PM. I can't believe that I slept for a full four hours... during the day. I had an extremely early supper at Hooter's (Crab legs, shrimp and a couple of wings) which may have contributed to my exhaustion. (How do you concentrate on a particular football game when three or four different games are blasting all around you at the same time? There were huge multiple screens everywhere you looked.) Anyway, now that I'm awake from my nap I feel like I was hit by a train. Aren't naps supposed to be good? How am I ever going to sleep tonight?

How do you feel when you wake up from your naps?

I wish I could nap. Occasionally like after dinner on Christmas yesterday I take a short nap of under an hour. Unfortunately every time I nap I have a VERY difficult time going to sleep that night. At this point of my life I honestly think I am granted about 6 hours sleep each day. If I use an hour or two during the day then I suffer that night.

Um...I don't know how to say this, so I'm just gonna come out with it: People don't usually go to Hooters to watch the television. Ahem. I take a nap every Saturday that we have to work. The reason for this is I have to be the first one @ the office to disable the alarm (this means a 5am wakeup time, 5:30 if I don't want a shower). Everyone else is afraid to do it. The cops have shown up before because the alarm company had someone new on the job & they reported us (5 people who swiped in with their badges & then entered the code) as burglars. At 6AM. On a Saturday. In the rain. Riiiiiiight. So when I get home I usually unwind for a little bit, and I do try to fight it, but that just means the nap will be had later. I usually nap for anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours. I usually feel ok afterwards & yes I still sleep a full night afterwards. I have a sleep disorder, so falling asleep is never an issue. It's the waking up I have issues with. In that same vein, if I overeat, I need a nap. Ever since I got diagnosed & am being treated for the sleep disorder, if I eat too much, I get sleepy. Not fun, so I just do smaller meals more often.

Eat too much! You may have figured out my problem. Sorry to hear about your sleeping disorder. I had no idea what to expect at Hooters. Well some idea, but I was interested in the food. I think the last and first time I was at a Hooter's was about 15 years ago. I had steamed clams. I was hoping for the same today. They were not on the menu. I've just never understood why I feel worse after taking a nap. But... taking them is better than fighting them.

I cannot nap without not being able to sleep at night. Obviously.

Before I retired, I took two naps a day in my office. One at 6:30AM and the other directly after lunch. A 10-15 minute nap does it for me and I awake fully refreshed. Now that I retire, I usually get up around 2;30AM-3:00AM. My first nap is around 6:30AM and I usually have another around 11:00AM. Again 10-15 minutes is all I require and it sure does invigorate me. I have been a nap taker all my life. My Mom told me that even as a toddler, when she told me it was nap time-I never fought it. I do sometimes feel tired after one, but I make sure I do something-maybe a short walk, or some household chore that keeps me moving a bit. I am starting 3rd shift today( 7pm-3am)so a nap will definately be in order!

I've found that napping late in the day does interrupt my being able to fall asleep easily at night. An early afternoon nap is the best. But sometimes I do wake up feeling like I've been run over by a truck.

Drove from Lon Island to Syracuse (about 6 hours if i remember correctly) dropped off some material. Turned around and headed home. On Rt 17 somewhere around Hancock, NY is a rest area. At about 1PM I pulled in and closed my eyes for a few minutes. At 7 pm a cop was knocking on my window. Someone had notified the cops that there was a dead man in a car at the rest area. Very embarrassing. And I wasn't dead at all, I think.

I nap fairly regularly, but then my work schedule is so erratic that I have to get sleep where I can fit it in. I've found if I sleep somewhere between 30 minutes and two hours I feel fabulous when I wake up, but anything between two and six hours and I feel like I got hit by a bus.

Every day around 3:45 i don't so much fall asleep as go into a self induced hypnotic state, lasts about 20 minutes, I feel refreshed as all get out. No problem falling asleep at night, hate it when I can't remember my dreams!

I frequently take short naps---from 15 to 30 minutes is perfect. Any more and I'm wiped out the rest of the day. A short nap re-energizes me and does not disturb night time sleep.

If I take one nap every 5 years- that would be alot for me I'm fairly consistent asleep by 11pm up by 7am during the week, however on the weekends I'm asleep between midnight and 1am and wake up by 8-9am.

By entering this thread so far down the list you probably have learned that I am, indeed, a Napper !! My body clock has me up and 'alert' when Jan gets going to work between 4:30 and 5 AM each morning. I then 'putter' til about 9 am or so and do an hour dozing in my chair. Then up to do whatever til she gets home at 4PM.. She gets a 30 min 'nap' then and we are good thru the evening. I will remain awake til about midnite then out til 4 am and start over.

We were just discussing this with family and friends over the holiday and all but two of us said they nap every day. I don't and never feel the need to - I've always got something going on - rarely do I ever sleep over 5 to 6 hours a night. But the spouse, who's been retired for a year now, and the dog take an hour nap on the sofa almost every afternoon. If for some reason they don't, they go to bed early at night to "make up for it."

I did enjoy napping with Wolfgang before he went to the Rainbow Bridge. He was my lil canine heating unit. My mom said that's the only way she knew I was getting sick when I was little: I would actually take a nap for her. Our Hooters here has fried pickles, mar52!! They were good!

Now you see, here I am at 2:36 a.m., and that's because I fell asleep for about half an hour this afternoon while reading.

Michael Hoffman Now you see, here I am at 2:36 a.m., and that's because I fell asleep for about half an hour this afternoon while reading. I'm in the same boat, sort of, at 4:10am. I was tired this afternoon so I figured a nap couldn't hurt. That was at 4pm. I woke up around 1am. I think that is no longer called a "nap"...I think I've actually slept.
