Ted's is the best. Sahlen's dogs rule. They are similar to the Leon's skinless that used to be made in Chicago. The company was purchased from the founder and they changed the formulation. Much better than Vienna which has a monopoly in the city.

Much better than Vienna which has a monopoly in the city. Leon's are still producing skinless hot dogs & Polish in Chicago. Leon is the grandson of Slotkowski Sausage Company and the father of Amy, the owner of Sausages by Amylu. http://atkfoods.com Chicagoans eat all beef, mildly spiced hot dogs. Sahlen's are a pork/beef blend, which is not an acquired regional taste in this part of the country. Visit the latest Roadfood poll of regional hot dogs to view the results. CSD, I sampled a Leon's dog at a tasting 2 years ago for Off The Broiler. I'm pretty sure it was a beef and pork dog. I'll look it up.

John, Leon's produces an all beef and pork/beef hot dog and Polish for retail and food service. There are a few Chicago hot dog stands serving Leon's and only one suburban hot dog serving Sahlen's. In the Chicago/Milwaukee corridor, Sausages by Amylu are available at Whole Foods and upscale/gourmet food stores.
