Yes! Take a side trip to New Harmony, Indiana! The Red Geranium Restaurant at New Harmony Inn is very good. http://www.newharmonyinn.com/

If you are interested in history, or history footnotes, there is a lot here to see. It's between Vincennes and Evansville, not too far from the Interstate, but still off the beaten path. I'm glad to be reminded of this area. We took a trip to St. Louis several years ago, and stayed at New Harmony Inn on the way back. It was, unexpectedly, the highlight of our trip.

You've been itching to hit the Road for some time, haven't you, Legallady?

You will find Steak 'n Shake on the freeways. What's your route?

Is Oshkosh NE in the Sand Hills?

I assume you will be crossing Missouri on I-70. Years ago I ate regularly at Stephenson's Old Apple Farm restuarant at exit 14 near Independence. I don't know if it's still as good but their web site looks promising. http://www.stephensons.bigstep.com/

I have eaten recently at Buckingham's BBQ (213 E-70 Business Loop) in Columbia Missouri. Really great BBQ.

I can also recommend the "63 Diner", 2 miles north of I-70 on Missouri 763 in Columbia. Really good food. http://www.63diner.com/menu.htm

If Jasper IN isn't too far out of the way, check out the Schnitzelbank.

          INCREDIBLE German food.

LOL Michael, I am so excited about getting out of here I even put this in the worn forum! Oshkosh is not directly IN the sandhills, but they begin about 5 miles north of here.

We will be traveling on the Interstate, Kansas City, MO, St. Louis, etc.

Gizmo, New Harmony is a definate stop

stephenson's Old Apple Farm sounds good too Jim, and we always stay overnight at Columbia.

Hubby would love the German food angle.

I order both the Old and the New Roadfood books the other day, so will consult them

            Thanks Y'all!
