New Barbeque Pit in Bergenfield, NJ
I found myself in Bergenfield today and was surprised to see a BBQ joint on Washington Ave. Of course I pulled right in, walked in the door and right into the Phillipines. This is a Filipino restaurant but the aromas coming from the kitchen had my pulse racing.
I checked out the menu and couldn't identify 90% of the items, however they offered rribs and pulled pork so I ordered a half rack and sat down to await my meal. I didn't hear a word of English for the next 10 minutes. It was like being transported out of NJ to the islands. I perused the menu and made a promise to myself to Google the mysterious offerings.
When the ribs arrived I was knocked out by 6 large, meaty, juicy, ribs generously coated in a flavorful sauce. The meat was just barely hanging on the bone and released with just the slightest pressure. Just enough fat to add to the perfect texture of the ribs.
The taste was fantastic! A blend of traditional southern and asian (Chinese style) flavors exploded in my mouth. It was a truly unique experience for me. I've had ribs all over this country and I have to count these in the top ten in my experience.
I finished them with relish and ordered a few pulled pork sandwiches to go. These were also excellent after 3 hours in my truck. I have to believe they would have benn knockouts if eaten on site.
The decor is nothing to talk about. Small with seating for about 20 inside but there are also several tables outside too.
I apologize for the long post but I was so pleasently surprised to find this palce that I had to pass it on. I plan of getting a few full racks this weekend for the football games.
BTW They offer full BBQ pigs on 2 days notice and sell it by the pound on Saturdays.
