Another useless kitchen gadget. I've got too many of those things already...

I saw this a few weeks ago in Target and was tempted, as I love poached eggs. Alas, my already jam-packed kitchen counters dictated otherwise.

My initial reaction seems to be the reverse of everyone else's. Not that my kitchen is too small for this, but that it's not small enough. I see something like this as exclusively for someone living with no kitchen. Maybe a dorm fridge, coffee maker and microwave. Now the urban gal on the go can have a piece of toast and an egg cooked for her while she puts on her makeup in her combo closet/bathroom/dressing room. Guess I've just lived in cities too much.

I like that one of its prominent features is that it is great for heating up beans for breakfast. Some time ago, I was at the local Cheapo mart going through the kitchen section and saw a variation of this device. It was a toaster oven with a griddle on top, above the broiler element. You could cook your meat and eggs up there. On the side was a coffee machine. I think that machine covers all bases. mark

I've seen that coffee maker/toaster/griddle. It looks like a 911 call to me. Great gift for Grandma after you've gotten her to change her will.

I have seen those out for about a year now-some even have a small coffee maker attached.I find them about as useful as that thing that turns your store bought ice cream into soft serve...

My guess is that all the useful kitchen gadgets that can be invented have been invented. Now they're just grasping at straws.

Hey Ashphalt - Your "Urban gal on the go" theory is great, except for one thing. The urban gal on the go doesn't eat. Ever. Her biggest meal is half an olive at lunch, and only if it's a power lunch (with a client) that she can't get out of. And then she spends the rest of the day complaining that she pigged out. That gadget looks more to me like something her boyfriend gave her to keep handy for when he comes over. But she stuffed it in a closet and either can't remember where it is or doesn't like it because everytime they try to use it it gives off that wierd "new appliance" smell.

The first atomic bomb was nicknamed "The gadget" by the scientists of the Manhattan Project, tested at the Trinity site. In some circles the distinction between a gadget and a gizmo is that a gizmo has moving parts, whereas a gadget need not have them. For example, a nifty digital watch would be a gadget, while an analog watch would be a gizmo. SO------Is this thing a gadget or a gizmo? Source--Wikipedia

You're probably right, except if the boyfriend bought it, he, and the "device," would probably be on the street. I'm guessing Mom bought it when she came into town to see "Cats" and saw how skinny her daughter is getting. And GOTG has to display it proudly whenever family comes to visit. BTW - I'm not sure if it's a gizmo or a gadget, but I do like the comparison to the Manhattan Project.
