Speaking of preconceived notions, their attempts at "Sopranos"-speak in the NY episode made me cringe. It's as if I were to walk into their kitchen and pretend to speak like a plantation owner or a riverboat gambler. As for: "Flay has a super ego and is a show boat!" I've always though of him as a lens-louse, myself. Of course with multiple gigs in cable and network along with print he may be a media whore.

Her doctor told of having to break the news that the cancer was terminal. He said he went into her hospital room, and told her as gently as he could, then asked, "Is there anything I can do for you?" She looked up from behind those huge glasses, and said, in that marvelous voice, "Why YES! I would simply ADORE a gin and a cigarette!"

I loved the Two Fat Ladies. I lost many love ones to cancer & was greatly saddened by Jennifer's death. I liked Ming Tsai and Tony Boudain (sp) Ming sometimes comes out on a local cable channel & I try to watch Tony on the Travel Channel. I also like Kylie Kwang from down under. I shudder when I hear Marc Summers.... Like Emerils and his restaraunts.

Cinnabonbon - Ming Tsai's show (I think it's called "Simply Ming") is still in production for Public Television. A friend of mine recently worked on taping for the upcoming season. You may want to get in touch with your local station to find out when they air it (and let them know you'd like to see it if they don't).

I watched it last night for the first time. They are a bit goofy and not that bright. I did enjoy seeing the food though. Prolly won't watch again.

Quoted from Page 2 by nemis As for Bobby Flays Throwdown I don't like the idea of a professional chef who has 20 years of exp. kinda beating down the little guy. I know it's all for fun but when it comes down to it all the work you have done and being the BEST in your category on a nation wide circuit ..you are now being beat on National TV by a famous chef. That's just not cool!! We had a News story on the Louisville NBC station a few days ago that featured the ThrowDown episode recently filmed here in Louisville. Bobby Flay took on a Breakfast Challenge with Lynn, of Lynn's Paradise Cafe, a noted Louisville eating establishment. The episode hasn't aired yet that I am aware of, but the News folks were pleased to announce that the Judges of the contest had awarded the WIN to LYNN!! Bobby bites the dust hard in Louisville!!

That episode was on 2 days ago. While I'm not hot on the shows concept, I thought that particular show was good. edited to say...saw the deen brothers show the same night..did not enjoy that.

I use to like Bobby Flay but the program has seem to change. Others have come to the top and he seems to be falling. My favorite at the time is Alton Brown no matter what he is doing. To quote Bushie "He is a food genius". I agree and the way his show is developing, I agree. The guy must be a chemist as well as a cook and his show must cost megabucks to produce. Paul E. I saw this show over the weekend and I come away with the feeling that it is all good natured, the woman seemed totally honored to compete with Bobby and they had good natured joking throughout their "throw down". I have not seen arrogance on Bobby's part in any of these shows. The Deen Boys, however, are clueless bobble heads.

Mr Mayor, Lynn was wonderful! She was bright and funny and just the perfect foil for Bobby. Much as I can't stand him, I really enjoyed this episode. As for the latest Deen Brothers, this show is just not very good. Those boys do not do television well. They're loud and obnoxious, not terribly funny, still trying too hard. I even liked the Throwdown better. They were in St Louis, and covered prosciutto, apple pie and brats. I do admit that I want to try those brats and intend to find out how much they are. Mushroom and swiss brats just sound too good to not try.

I have held off my opinion of this show until I saw a few episodes, but most of the places they've been, I have already seen on other shows. I really thought I would like it, but... ! On the Food Network commercial about the "new summer season shows", they show the Deen boys when they say something about going off the beaten path. New York, Key West and St. Louis are not "off the beaten path". No offense to anyone who might live in these cities. I live in Cincinnati, and it's NOT OFF THE BEATEN PATH!!! Small towns with hidden gems are what good roadfood is made of.

I too miss those wonderful, "Two Fat Ladies". They were such a hoot! I hope Clarissa is well. I think their shows produced some of the most Iconic moments in (food) television. As I stated before, the Deen bros. do nothing for me. Their just lucky that Paula made such a huge success for herself and, in turn, for her sons. My personal faves; Mario Molto, Alton Brown, and Giada. My very most personal fave: Tony Bourdain! God, I wish he would stop smoking! I want him around for a long time. Thanks for reading my 2 cents worth.

Love reading all these comments about the TV Food Network shows. In my opinion, none of the current shows hold a candle to many of the original shows when the Food Network first began. Loved the Two Fat Ladies also and was so sorry when Jennifer died. It seems that the early shows were more about teaching....now it seems as if they are more about how much cleavage can be legally shown, how to squeeze a lemon by hand, how to turn on a gas range, etc., etc. I get so tired of that type of camera work as it has nothing at all to do with cooking in my opinion. Also, shows that are about recipes that call for cans of soup, mayonnaise, boxed mixes, etc., aren't all that interesting to me. I like to see dishes made from scratch with a bit of originality. Thanks for allowing me to vent. I do like to watch Sarah Moulton, as she is so natural and good at what she does, Mario is okay, Alton Brown is good and I like Michael Chiarello. The others I can do without. Saturdays are good on PBS with Lydia and sometimes Jacques Pepin, etc. Those are real cooks. Donna

the one reason i'm so fond of this site is that everyone is welcome, from executive chefs to culinary folk artists. as i have learned, some people simply prefer to use short cuts like canned potatoes.nothing wrong with that. but calling lydia and jacque pepin cooks is like calling da vinci a painter.

But I did like the way he underhandedly tossed the pigs foot into the garbage after taking a bite of it... The look on his face was priceless... And am not really into the Deen Brothers show either..... The look too "preppie" and dont really have the TV persona that mom does.

It was very informative, and they use lots of crude props, and multi-task with their production staff. They use sound men dressed up as lobsters, etc.. They showed how they did the scene in the airplane, and beach scenes..It was just as fun to watch as his regular show. They showed the original kitchen, and why they had to stop filming there and how they film everything.. Trivia... His "Q" sidekick, or whatever her name is.. The little Asia woman is really his chiropracter in real life. It was VERY interesting, and gave lots more insight as to how the show is made. Try to catch it if you can.
