New Krystal Is Anounced Fri, 08/20/04 6:18 PM (permalink)
Last night, TV news announced a new Krystal planned for Georgetown, Texas.

Georgetown is in central Texas, it is on I-35 between Austin and Temple. The closest Krystal that I know of is in Mississippi. Now Texas will have them.

Yes you do, and I ate at one of them on the way back from Gulf Shores last week. Excellent as usual. I even had my daughter pumped up to try one, but once she saw the onions, that was over. (When she saw the pickle..........ooh, that was a look I'd just as soon forget.) We also stopped for breakfast at a Krystal's just north of Montgomery, AL and I was surprised to see that they're branching into the chicken wings business. My son loves wings and was a little put off when he found that they weren't serving them in Knoxville. Do you think this was just a local thing or could Montgomery be a test bed for a new product?

Help me if I am remembering wrong, but I think back in the late 70's , we stopped at a Krystals close to Atlanta and they also sold fried chicken along with the little hamburgers. Maybe my memory is failing, but I really think I do remember this.

Why does everyone say Krystal's? It's Krystal. Just one of my many pet peeves. BTW any old school Krystal's J/K remember the Krystal King? It was a full sized double cheeseburger very similar to a Big Boy sandwich or a Big Mac. Thousand Island dressing was used. Oops, gotta go to Wal-Mart's now! Just kidding around ya'll.

I remember the Krystal King, I also remember the Country Style Breakfast for under $3, it was huge. Now all you can get there is a "scrambler". All in a cup, grits on the bottom, scrambled egg next, then a sausage patty. No thanks, never again.
BTW, I was ALMOST had by the "Walmarts's" thing....

They would cook eggs to order, had the world's greatest waffles (so good they sold the batter in cups to take out). They also had good chili, at least compared to Wendy's, excellent banana, chocolate, and coconut cream pies. They did indeed have fried chicken for a while too.

The Krystal B.A. (Black Angus) burger is positively the BEST "fast food" burger around.

Yes, they did. I remember this from late '70's in Montgomery, AL. As I remember, they even had a separate section of the restaurant devoted to this... Sh_t... I am getting OLD...

The first Texas Krystal opened last fall in Beaumont. A co-worker brings two dozen Krystals to me when he visits his parents in Beaumont. Wish northeast Texas (Longview/Marshall area) would get one!

Buckshot, my niece in Longview comes back here for Krystals (to Mississippi).

The Krystal Resturants did serve fried chicken. Most of the older locations (the ones that had previously had stool and counters and counter service with waitresses and waiters) built an addition to the rear of the existing buildings.

The newer ones which were built just sold it from the walk-up counter.

The chicken was good, but the cole-slaw was my favorite. The potato salad was also good. I am not sure if they even served mashed potatoes or not.

There is also a Krystal on Bourbon Street, unless it has closed.

There used to be a lot of Krystals in New Orleans but they closed around 1967 or 1968. One of the buildings on St. Charles became a Zack's Frozen Yogurt when that chain was around.

I thought that the Krystal King was good, but I preferred the Krystals with no mustard or the Cheeseburgers.
