New Menu Item? Tue, 09/30/08 10:40 PM (permalink)
I haven't ate at a McDonalds more than twice in the last few years.

My wife suggested a lunch stop today, saying she tasted their chicken wraps and enjoyed them.
I opted for a Double Big Mac. Is this something new along with wraps?
Tell you one thing! their food is quite good. I rather enjoyed it.

I also like their Egg McMuffins. I wonder if my taste buds are changing.

I hadn't eaten at McDonald's in a very long time, maybe three years. Two weeks ago the company I work for sold to another and we started working 12 to 14 hour days to ensure a smooth changeover. There was so much going on that we didn't even stop for lunch so the third morning I decided my best bet was to grab some breakfast to tide me over until dinner.

I got a bacon egg & cheese biscuit and I was amazed at the size of it - it was at least twice the size of the one's I'd gotten in the past - it was a nice big fluffy biscuit, with the same folded over chewy egg and how can bacon really end up that thin - but it was quite tasty.

They've had double Bic Macs for quite a while, but not at all locations. The wraps I think just came about in the last year or so.

For all everyone rants and raves about how awful they are, there's definitely something to be said for knowing exactly what you're going to get no matter where you are. If I don't have time to research before being sent out of town, I'm more likely to eat at McDonald's than somewhere you'd consider Roadfood when I only have an hour to eat. It's not horrible, and it's definitely food. Which is more than I can say for some of the mom & pop places I've ventured into in the past.

If calories and dieting are not an issue, I suggest trying the steak, egg and cheese bagel from McDonalds. They seriously need to do some advertising of these things, to make people aware of them! Good eats!!!!!!!

The biscuits are good! Sausage on one with a no-sugar Vanilla iced coffee makes a very good on the go breakfast.

Felix, You make a good point. On our recent weekend trip up to Wisconsin our goal was to 'get there' in time to take the family out to dinner. So we weren't interested in wandering around Central Illinois at lunch time, even though we know of several places that could have served up a good lunch. Instead we chose a Culver's located right beside a freeway interchange...less than a minute off our course. We took the time for a restroom stop and actually ate in the restaurant rather than using take-out, but it kept the 'non-travel' time to a minimum and the FF quality was a known entity to us. If you don't have the luxury of 'wanderlust' travel, the chains of various types serve a valid purpose.

DOUBLE Big Mac? as in 4 burger patties in 1 sandwich? now we're talking BIG Mac.
to me the ideal Big Mac would be 2 1/4lb. patties.
would they do that if I requested it ?
how can you find out which locations do requests like that?

I have no problem with the wraps either...they've been here nearly a year.
                Also 49c hamburgers/59c cheeseburgers on Mondays/Wednesdays.

Just ask your local McDonalds if they have the Double Mac; they might prepare some items that aren't
on the board anymore by request, like when I always used to get a sausage biscuit + hash browns combo
                for 99c.

They call it a double quarter pounder with cheese. Ask for Big Mac sauce.

Or a regular double cheeseburger with Big Mac sauce and lettuce added.

                      Hello All,
I work nights and the wife's cooking is not
always what I want. So at 10:30-11 p.m. there
are not many food places open, especially if
you only have a half hour to eat.
I visit the local McDonald's or Burger King.
The meal I enjoy most is McDonald's
"Big and Tasty," meal. I order it with
tomato, mustard, mayo, and shredded lettuce.
The folks at the local McDonald's know me and
do it my way. And the good souls at the drive-thru
aren't just zombies. We talk and kid around.
I tried their new Chicken southern sandwich,
which was not new...they just threw pickles on it
                      like Chic-fil-whatever.
But I (and it is an unholy statement) like my
local McDonald's. It is not mom's home cooking,
but I don't find mom's home cooking anywhere but
at my mom's. And unfortunately, she is too old
to make the food I love anymore.
She taught me how to cook, so now it's Pop's home
                      cooking.
But I go to fast food due my screwy schedule.
Again, the Big and Tasty is good, though the
first time I ordered it, I shouted into the
outside speaker, "I'd like a Big and Nasty Meal.
                      Take Care,
                      Fieldthistle

Remember, the standard McDonald's hamburger patty used in the regular burgers and the Bic Mac is only 1.6 oz. Four of them would only be 6.4 oz. (0.4 lbs).

At one time McDee's DID offer a double quarter pounder Big Mac. I remember it well...

Nice idea except in California, Unless you can get the store manager, You don't ask for anything that differs at all from the names of the menu items. No mixing and matching. You get a blank stare.

Using Spanish (from Spain) rarely works either. The people at McDonald's here speak Mexican et al native tribal languages mixed with their local Spanish.

I don't know about Florida/Cuba, but I've spent time in Puerto Rico and the same Spanish menu there and in Mexico would read very differently.

This communication thing goes for all big corporate ff chains in CA except In'n'Out which employs people of all ethnicities, but who all speak fluent English.

It's great though that you can communicate there.

Mayor, I know you have spoken a time or two about Tehachapi CA. Next time you find yourself there, be sure to stop in to the Mc Donalds on Tucker Rd. It is owned by a lovely lady. My sister. If my Mother happens to be there, she will make you laugh until soda comes out of your nose. If my Father happens to be there, he will talk to you about trains, until my Mother rescues you.

Tehachapi is my second favorite train-chasing and watching location. It was about 2 hours from our home near Cajon Pass (my #1 LOCATION). We would wander the old road down to Keene and Caliente from Tehachapi, always stopping for awhile at the "Loop". I will note your invitation for our next western roadtrip to that area. Thanks.
