New Orleans Roadfood Festival Special Events

I guarantee that everyone with an appetite is going to eat extremely well at the New Orleans Roadfood Festival March 26-28, 2010. In addition to the spectacular array of America's Roadfood available from vendors on Royal Street, not to mention the bounty of New Orleans itself, here are some Festival events and opportunities to make it the weekend of a lifetime:

Friday Night Opening Party and presentation of the first annual Roadfood Blue Plate Award to legendary New Orleans restaurateurs Anthony and Gail Uglesich. The event will provide an intimate setting for a small number of guests to enjoy the company of fellow Roadfood devotees as well as to meet and chat with the renowned cooks who are coming to New Orleans to be part of the Festival. The Party takes place in a French Quarter setting the likes of which outsiders rarely see: the historic Boucvalt House. The menu will feature fare NOT otherwise available during the Festival: pulled pork from The Brick Pit of Mobile, Alabama, Five-Way Cincinnati Chili from Camp Washington Chili Parlor, all the shrimp and raw oysters you can eat, hot pork cracklin's from T-Boy's Slaughterhouse, Cafe Reconcile White Beans and Shrimp … and an open bar featuring New Orleans cocktails.             Saturday Night Crawfish Boil and Pig Roast. My fondest memories of last year's festival revolve around this event: classic Cajun food in a true-swamp setting with live music and dancing, real alligators poking around the pig roast, and the camaraderie of fellow Roadfooders. We're doing it again this year: same wonderful place and same fais-do-do spirit. For details and to purchase tickets, visit: [link=http://www.roadfood.com/store/Roadfoodfestival/shrimpcrawfishboil]http://www.roadfood.com/s...val/shrimpcrawfishboil[/link]

The "Friends of Roadfood" Experience. A very limited number of tickets will be available to those who want the ultimate culinary weekend. Each ticket provides full access to the Friday and Saturday night parties, an invitation to a private dinner with the Uglesiches, the Sterns and the Rushmores, special accommodations at the beignet-eating contest, and a personal introduction to each of the vendors by Jane, Michael and/or Stephen.             Here is a snapshot from last year's crawfish boil. Left to right, that's Sue on the washboard with whisk, Bruce with tamborine, Amy with washboard and spoon, Jane with tamborine (and deep in a swamp-country trance), and Chris with washboard and whisk. (Musical instruments are provided; or feel free to bring your own!)
