We will be making our yearly trip to NOLA for a week in March.  Anyone have any suggestions that we shouldn't miss?  We've tried all the older places.  We will be staying in the quarter.

You probably haven't tried the Camellia Grill's new French Quarter location (540 Chartres) because it's only been there a few months.  If you crave a snack after 10 PM, consider it.  http://www.camelliagrill.net/

Have you eaten at Couchon and/or Herbsaint?  I especially recommend Couchon for lunch:  http://www.cochonrestaurant.com/  Herbsaint is a little fancier and the food is more Creole to Couchon's Cajun but it's one of my favorite dinner places.

If you haven't tried the burgers (served with BAKED potato, not fries) at Port of Call, you should:  http://portofcallnola.com/

Not many people think Cuban in New Orleans, but in fact Liborio in the CBD (just a short walk from the Quarter) is really good:  http://www.liboriocuban.com/  Try the ropa vieja (or anything else on the menu).

They don't think Italian either, but another of my favorite places is Irene's Cuisine which is sort of Italian-Creole fusion:  http://www.yelp.com/biz/irenes-cuisine-new-orleans  They don't take reservations so, if you don't want to wait a LONG time, get there about 1/2 hour before they open (5:30 I think, but check) and be among those to get a table right away at opening.

Just in case you've never had a muffaletta from Central Grocery (which claims to have invented them), do yourself a favor and get one (better yet, split one 'cause a whole one is really a BIG meal):  http://www.yelp.com/biz/c...grocery-co-new-orleans

Another recommended lunch (or dinner but I preferit for lunch when it's packed with business types) spot in the CBD is the Bon Ton Cafe:  http://www.yelp.com/biz/c...grocery-co-new-orleans  Cajun/Creole standards, heavy on the seafood, done really well.

If you haven't yet done Willie Mae's Scotch House, I love going there for fried chicken, even though most people consider that a cab ride away from the French Quarter.

It's the same weekend as the Tennessee Williams festival.  Anyone staying over that Sunday evening, should head for the Stanley/Stella shouting contest in Jackson square at 4pm.  It's always a lot of fun, and for a complete schedule including music and food events go to - tennesseewilliams.net

BT, I agree with the rec for Irene's, but I believe they do take reservations now. They did last spring, anyway.

You're probably right. I ate there in January and it did seem they were taking some reservations but I was (and remain) confused about under what circumstances etc.  Personally, I almost never make restaurant reservations since I usually don't decide where I want to eat until dinner time, so I didn't inquire about the "new" reservation policy.  I'd rather just go there around 5 PM like I said.  I don't mind eating early.

During my trip there in December/January, I most enjoyed Luke (a Contemporary European-style Brasserie in the Warehouse/Arts District) and Jamila's (a Tunisian restaurant near Tulane).

Not liking the schedule of events this year.

I could go 50 Bucks for a cocktail party, but 75 Smacks to sample burgers and beer?  Not good.

No crawfish boil?  THAT was one kicka$$ party.

Without starting a new thread, who is going this year?

Have you tried Brigtsen's yet?  http://brigtsens.com/  The seafood platter -- the photo on the main page -- is great.

I was there a few weeks ago and REALLY wanted a muffaletta from Central Grocery...sadly, they are closed Sunday and Monday.  If CG is on your list just be aware of the closed days.  I know it is touristy but I sure do still love biegnets and Cafe Du Monde...and cheap too!
