Nutleydude - For this type of information you may want to check out the New York board on Chowhound.com. This site is an awesome resource for regional focused questions of this nature. The posters on Chowhound are for the most part native to that particualr area and as result the information is better and more reliable.

There are also TONS of threads on this very website that offer suggestions (check out the Where To Eat section under "Forums.") Or...you can buy a Zagat restaurant guide for New York City, which is really comprehensive for the kind of thing you're probably looking for. You're getting started really early on this prom. I was still trolling around for a date in May, with troll being an operative word, as it turned out....

My daughter's junior prom is April 22, so it must vary with area. I was real surprised to see that her school's sophomore cotillion is on March 4. It was on March 28 last year. I hope she hasn't been asked to that (freshmen through seniors intermix and intermingle in her school, which is really nice). I don't know if I'll have my income tax return $$ back yet by then, and you cannot imagine how much we (my fiance forked over plenty too) spent on that cotillion last year. But seeing her face, and seeing how gorgeous she looked, was worth every penny. They didn't go anyplace after that, but maybe this year they will. Most of her friends are 17 and drive.
