New York Italian

This list from the Village Voice of the top 100 Italian restaurants in New York is bound to spur some controversy:

What happened to Felidia, Raos and Babbo?

And Queen in Brooklyn. (He probably couldn't get into Rao's.)

From what I know about New York City (Italian) restaurants, my guess is that this list is a list of the best inexpensive Italian restaurants. We have been to a few great Italian restaurants in New York City and none are named on that list.

I've eaten at Rao's three times over the years. It can get a tiny bit crowded.

My goodness! How do you rate? How did you ever get a table? I thought the eight tables were more or less "privately owned".

Huh...I wonder if the rater is any relation to the Washington Post's restaurant critic Tom Sietsema.

But wow! What a list! The list is definitely slanted to inexpensive restaurants, hence the absence of Babbo and Rao's. But just because they are absent doesn't mean this isn't a terrific list. This guy really beat the pavement for this list!! I wish I could join ancient mariner!!

Hey Meowzart, hop in the rumble seat of my Ford roadster and hang on. We will tour the Big Apple and hit every joint on the list. Grampy's list is great. If you are allergic to tomato sauce to have to have a written letter from your doctor clearing me of all blame.

thanks Grampy!!!....quite a list and a great guide to places most people(unless they really know Italian)would probably never know about. of course,I got knockered a bit when the guy says that #69,Vincents,has GREAT Manhattan clam chowder.....nobody should even comment on that most abominable of culinary disasters, Manhattan my salt encrusted feet!

And Vincent's also has great hot sauce with the scungilli.
