New trailer counter top question

Just ordered the countertops for our trailer build and then it dawned on me...is formica NSF approved? Does it need to be? I looked through the site for any info on this but found nothing...full blown resturants can not have formica at all I know that. All our product will come pre-cooked, per-packaged....I assume thats the difference. I will contact the health dept on Monday just to make sure. Can't imagine the cost of SS counter tops through out this build! Not to mention the wasted $$$ on the new ones I just customed ordered. Thanks for your input.

I would check with the health dept to be on the safe side. Things that can also come in play is installation, splash guard, caulk, seams, etc. Lights are not NSF approved but resturants are required to have them and a certain amount of them. So not sure about counter tops.....

I'm sorry, but why would you order anything without first finding out if it will be approved? Suggest calling the countertop people and putting it on hold until you find out.

High pressure plastic laminate (Wilsonart, Formica, etc) IS NSF approved along with Corian (you can get their NSF info on their website) and the other brands of solid surface materials (including Wilsonart's). We have installed both in commercial kitchen in the far past. The food grade caulkings are as well. The commercial trailer builder should be using the Highwear laminate.some of the metals are NSF I believe. The link is to a pdf that you can print out to give to your HD. look at the top of page 6 of the PDF www.wilsonart.com/productlib/techdata/laminate/Basiclam.pdf - 2010-10-05 All solid colors and printed patterns in Basic Types 107, 335, 350 and 376, comply with NSF NSF International (NSF) #35, “Laminated Plastic for Surfacing for Food Service Equipment.” Once upon a time, we used to be dealers for Wilsonart and Corian. It's why I know this.
