Newman's Own popping corn Wed, 12/1/04 3:52 PM (permalink)
I think Newman's Own popping corn has a taste that's way better than other name brands such as Orville Redenbacher. After a bowl of Newman's Own, the Redenbacher stuff is almost tasteless by comparison. Although Newman's Own is somewhat hard to find, I seek it out. Does anyone agree with me on this, or have another popping corn brand they feel similar about? (I'm kind of a snob about popcorn - I won't eat the microwave kind except in an emergency - even Newman's).

I'm not a popcorn fan, but my wife is. If she makes it I eat a little. We do prefer the Newman brand, and it is easy to find here Most of the popcorn we eat though, is a brand that will remain nameless. It is sold by my nephew's Boy Scout Troop, and not nearly as good

I've got two huge cans of that popcorn-that-shall not be named in my pantry. My sister was the "Popcorn Kernel" for her son's area this year. I don't think it will ever all get eaten.

I do like the Newman's Own.

Lone Star. I didn't buy those big cans Each year we buy a box of those microwave packets. This years box is unopened, because we still have some from last year. It pops up fine, but it does not taste very good. The Newman's pops up bigger, and far better smelling and tasting. If the brand x keeps building up I will pop it and give it to the sheep. They like leftover pop corn.

I've found Dollar General has a great microwave popcorn. I don't remember the name but the Double Butter is great.

The "Cousin Willie's" brand I get at Krogers is pretty darn good, especially the white cheddar cheese. I think it kicks Orville's butt and it's cheap here.

My mother-in-law gave me some Paul Newman's Microwave Popcorn. Don't know whether it's old or what, but only about half of the kernels pop and what does pop tastes like crap. Almost any other brand works just fine, so the problem isn't my microwave.

Know what's good? Some brand (DK) that's salty-sweet - has home popping microwave bags but with a bit (not too much) sugar too.

I think the microwave is perfectly suited for popcorn. The problem is there is no suitable microwave popcorn made for the microwave.

I am waiting for a wise producer to come up with the idea of great quality popcorn in a microwavable bag with nothing else added. Plain popcorn, what a concept.

I think most people like adding their own extras anyway.

Isn't "salty-sweet" microwave popcorn what they call "kettle corn"?

                      Orville is still the man.

I can't vouch for Newman's Own microwave popcorn. I think most microwave popcorn isn't worth eating, and the same may apply to Newman's, which I've never tried.

The Newman's Own I'm referring to is the kind that comes in a big jar and requires popping on the stove or in a popcorn maker. This kind definitely kicks Orville's behind.
