Nice steamers

I had some wonderful steamers today at Brian's in Linwood, Mass. The "steamer" lunch special was on today. (on again and off again, I suspect, based on the availability of steamer clams) For 9.95 I got access to a bread, beet and soup bar (wonderful in and of itself), family style salad and then the main course, a heaping plate of hot, in the shell, soft shell clams with a side of green beans and potato. Only one clam on the plate had a little grit. The rest were sweet and fresh. I'm a fried clam guy, myself, but Dad wanted me to take him to Brians, and I am glad we did it. BTW Brian's is across the street from Pirates Cove, a locally famous clam and ice cream shack.

What a rotten thing to post! Here I was perfectly happy with my egg sandwich and you have to bring up steamers.

I was just wondering what we should have for dinner tonight when I read your post. I haven't had steamers in a long time and you've made my mouth water for them. I think I'll pick some up. I hope they're as sweet as the ones you had. Where is Linwood? I'd love to try Brian's sometime.

Linwood is about 20 miles SE of Worcester. Brians is right on Rt 122. You park on one side of the street and take a crosswalk over to Brian's. You can't miss it because it is right up to the road. Like the typical RF place it is, the restaurant is on the street floor, and people live above it.

I sure as heck don't know why they have beets, but at the place where they used to have a salad bar they now have a neat contraption to slice your hot bread, a small steam table with soup and pasta, and a large tray of sliced red beets. I don't know why, but Dad had me get him a bowl of beets. Other folks were getting them too. They tasted like cold canned beets to me.
